I think that the dark side was not strong enough in Darth Sidious to tattoo this part of Darth Maul...
but despite that a friend of mine runs a tattoo & piercing shop which features a so called "red chamber" in which even the oddest customer gets served. so i guess she could provide me with more references than i can take XD

Supposedly, everything is tattooed on Maul. What annoys me is how every Sith since Maul (in EU, I mean) features extreme Maul style tattoos. I always envisioned Maul's extensive tattooing as being a Dark Side corruption of the Zabrak cultural practice of tattooing as part of coming of age (see Eeth Koth and Agen Kolar, for example). It's just annoying; kinda gives the impression that the Legacy comic artists have no idea what they're doing, just like the NJO writers.

Have you ever seen the darth maul in oblivion, the person who created that just makes him look awesome. To have darth maul in morrowind will even be better because i like morrowind better then oblivion. (My opinion)

I have to confess i underestimated the work. the tattoos are quite difficult to make since BB meshes have a rather strange UV Mapping on some parts so continuous tattoos are a bit difficult to make (especially the hands). besides that this stupid game called "Real Life" burdened me with some duties.
