Mounted Combat?

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 4:07 am

This wouldn't be such a hard thing to do at all, would just require a single animation or two more for being on horse.

I'd like to see it a lot, and it would be easily implemented for melee weapons, however I'm not sure how would they do bow shotting. I mean how would one direct a horse, and aim at the same time?

Also if they do this they should definitively put restriction to only one handed weapons.

Mongolians did that hundreds of years ago for everyday life, so I guess it's not outside human's capability

Maybe for bow on horseback they can make your view (your face) follow your mouse while your horse remains focused with movement controls (like in oblivion, you can see right and left on horseback while your horse keeps focusing on the road), just add a target crosshair and we're golden

I hope they do, and if they do they better reintroduce spears/halberds, because I always thought a dude using a sword while on a horse looked kinda clunky. Mounted archery though? Hells yeah. I will be able to make Link after all! :celebration:

Sounds good to me! Hopefully there are different mounts in the game so we can have different animations for the combat.

Turk-style horse archery would be amazing fun. I don't normally use marksmanship but if I horse archery was possible I would get marksman for that very reason.

Marksmanship was one of OB's best features I thought.

Mounted Combat would be so fun! I was disappointed Oblivion didn't have it. Hopefully Skyrim will.

I relied heavily on archery for almost all of my stealth characters. Some things could have been done better, sure, but it was still great (until my disc got scratched, that is. Then all arrows fired three seconds after releasing the trigger and two feet to the right, or not at all). Not to be that guy, but why doesn't firing at a target dummy raise my skill? How is that any different than firing at a normal enemy, or for that matter hitting an enemy?

Mounts were left out of Morrowind, mounted combat was left out of OB. There is no reason not to include it, except as a design choice. I think it was even Todd or Pete who said the main theme of fantasy was a knight on horseback fighting dragons. For the first time in TES' history, they have a chance to make it a reality.

I was not talking about human capability, I know it has been done :P I was only concerned about how would you perform it in game, but you reminded me that in Oblivion moving face doesn't change the horse's direction, so yeah, it could be easily done then. :hehe:

That would be nice.. as long as there's a skill involved for it. Mounted combat skill.

Yes. If it is in, it better be done well too.

It'd be awesome charging in to battle on an armored horse... and not having to get off every time you want to attack.

Tell the Daedra kills your horse....with about 4 hits.

The idea of charging in on horse and shattering a enemy's shield and throwing him back with the power of a spear or lance would be awesome. Now add a couple companions doing the same with you and it would really add awesomeness to the gameplay

Could you perhaps solve some of the control problems being discussed by having an "auto-pilot" feature to the horses? Think about it: If you need to shoot at something, get your horse to the desired speed and direction, and have him go in that general direction automatically, only straying to avoid obstacles and stopping when a dead-end is reached. While your horse is doing its thing, you shoot, or cast, or whatever-else you need to do. A "lock-on" feature could also be implemented, that keeps your horse in striking distance for melee combat, or along-side an enemy's horse while galloping, or just to talk with other riders on the road. The auto-pilot could also be set to follow the nearest road, or take you to the nearest road. I think it'd be cool.

I don't think an auto lock would be necessary because the attack would happen so quickly. You're riding along at full speed chasing a bandit on horseback, time the speed, draw your bow quickly, aim and take the shot in two seconds.maybe a aim assist would be good though

I want mounted combat. And the ability to pull a foe off his horse with a halberd.

Ummm, not it the way fall out 3 was but it'll still be gory and I think it will be M rated this time.

There is no way that Skyrim will be an "M" rated game. They already "casual"ed TES with Oblivion in order to attract as many new players as possible(Please note: I'm not saying Oblivion was a terrible game, it was quite enjoyable). There is no good reason for them to eliminate a portion of their gains to the fan playerbase by making the series "M". They'll keep it "T"(or whatever Rated for Teens is) and be happy with that.
