Vault home

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 7:22 pm

I've been looking at home mods, searching vaults....They seem very nice not to big nor small( Overseer office, bathrooms, bed rooms, entrance, storage room, and more rooms THAT ARE WORTH MAKING).....but yet, I feel lonely there, I suggest someone to make mod with at least people in it.thanks. :D :D....by the way if you respond, sadly, I was kinda not smart to buy Fallout 3.why?Because the game requirements say I need 2.4 GHz but mine is 2.1 GHz. So if you ever make one, please don't make it have to much rooms or meshes(vault doors and jumpsuits are fine, nothing else please)

If you use Nexus forums here is a link: http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=192913&st=0&gopid=1679184&#entry1679184

More details: I have all 5 DLC
I have a low processor(said in desc), Please dont make to much things

There are a couple of populated vaults that you can try.

If you're just looking for a small house, my all-interior "http://princessstomper.wordpress.com/2009/11/29/pink-vault-hole-in-the-wall/" (don't worry, it's not that garish) at least comes with a robot butler, which can make it feel a lot less lonely.

On the other hand, http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/mods/213/RR-Companions-Vault adds a massive, populated vault to the game.

I know this probably isn't exactly suitable for you because of your weak PC but I had to throw this out some time. :D

I wasn't exactly satisfied with the vault house mods currently out there. RR Companions Vault is pretty cool, but was not exactly to my taste because I felt it was a bit out of place. It is still a very well designed mod though. Still, I wanted something big.

So I started my own project. The big problem was that I svck at interior designing. Luckily I stumbled upon http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9906. It's a huge vault, posted as a modder's resource. It took me quite a while before I didn't get lost in it anymore, even in the GECK! This vault is fully decorated and has all sorts of cool little things. It is unfinished, which is why it's a modder's resource, but it's one hell of a good modder's resource.

So I intend to put it to good use by turning it into a quest mod. To sum it up quickly, at some point the player can become the overseer of Vault 88, and it kind of becomes a Vault overseer simulator from there. The player overseer has to make decisions for the vault with regards to the following simplified variables: Happiness, Safety/Security (Guards, Healthcare), Working Resources (for getting jobs done) and Primary Supplies (food, water, clothes, etc.). The better things go, the more people will come to the vault. No more loneliness. :)

I only started this recently though, so I'm not very far. So far I've been preparing Vault 88 to be able to hold a decent number of NPCs without slowing the game down too much, especially for lower end PCs. Part of the Atrium level was separated from the rest and put in a separate level (which was, because there are windows everywhere and often two ways into pretty much any area, a bit difficult) to improve performance. And pathfinding had to be added everywhere.

But I've got a pretty good idea of the different quests I want to offer, how the different variables will influence each other, and most importantly how to script it. It's going to be a challenge for sure, but I think I can do it.

I do recommend people checking out the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9906, it's quite fun to explore even if there's nothing else to do.

Honestly Vault mods would be a lot more interesting if the player didn't always end up owning the whole thing or becoming the Overseer simply by breathing.

Something where some scavengers find a ratty old half built Vault, and decide to whole up there. The player catches a radio signal requesting assistance with eliminating some kind of nearby/in-vault threat. He heads over, lends a hand, is offered a room in the quarters. You accept, and you get a standard living room/bedroom accomodations. The Vault would be populated by scavengers, meaning they're always in need of something. The local fix-it dude would pay good money for scrap metal, the doc could always use morphine, and so on. Give a scavenging type player a reason to stay - a comfortable well protected home, a good income, and a place to burn some of that income.

A bar, or a ramshackle "weapons range" or something, where you can blow your own stores of ammo or buy a cheap (custom) pistol and ammo from the manager of the range (like a custom 10mm pistol, called a 9mm and 9mm ammo supplied at a low cost. Does low damage to make it a practice gun and not your main arm). Just something semi-realistic or at least that doesn't make you king of the damn wasteland as soon as you leave 101.

Well I do want to avoid handing the reigns to the player too quickly. :)
