Adding a sight in Nifskope?

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 5:03 am

I wanted to add an EOtech sight to the laser rifle.
I copied (block copy branch) one from another model and pasted (block paste branch) into the laser rifle mesh (which I had previously lined up for use of Iron sights).
It showed up fine, so I aligned it on the model with the red dot roughly aligned with the game reticle.
I then copied the sight .dds and n_dds into the same folder as the rifles textures and ammended the texture links in nifscope
As you can see from the http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff292/VonGrantoven/laserEotech.jpg, the sight is clearly visible and textured in nifskope.
However it does not show up in the game.

I have been successful in swapping and adding things to meshes in the past, but have made several attempts at this one with no success.
What am I doing wrong?
Any help most appreciated

Fallout is weird when it comes to meshes. Any part of the mesh that is NOT animated needs to have the same name as the base mesh. For example, the base mesh is probably called LaserRifle:0 or something like that. Make the sight mesh names "LaserRifle:1", "LaserRifle:2", and so on and so forth. It's the only way to get extra parts to work in game.

Thanks for the tip! That did the trick.

I've always thought that the LR was lacking in the sight department, especially as I use ironsight view on all weapons (though its a pain to align the damn things!)
Adding an EOtech style reddot I think really fits the ugly, blocky utilitarian look of the weapon and greatly enhances getting a nice sight picture on the target

Thanks again for your help in getting this sorted!
