He's a bit difficult to level up, and I know that's par for the course at the beginning, but I was just wondering about the spell absorption trick to regain lost Spell Points? I've read that it can be done, and I have spell absorption as one of my advantages. I was just wondering what you have to do to do this little trick.
I'm pretty sure I answered this in another thread, but the trick is to cast "area at range" damage spells, like fireball, at close range. You will automatically absorb it, negating the damage you would otherwise take, and regaining all the spellpoints you would otherwise lose.
Also, how do you climb? I've read about people who manage to climb the walls of daggerfall right after they get out of the tutorial dungeon, and I can't seem to do that.. or start climbing at all. If I hold down the space bar, I'll go into climbing mode a lot, but then fall after a foot or two.
Climbing is just walking into a wall until you start to go up it. Space bar is unnecessary. But you need a good climbing skill to actually do it (though I have good results even at 25%). If you're playing a mage, I'm guessing Climbing is neither Primary nor Major on your build.
Final question! I got a quest for the Mage's Guild to kill a creature in a dungeon called Saeusah Cave, I believe. When I got there, it was a large rectangle around a middle room. However, the door leading to the middle room was blocked with a cage and I couldn't go inside. I eventually reloaded and got a new dungeon. But just curious, was that just a borked dungeon or was there a way around it? I checked all around for hidden doors, and didn't find any.
Did you try clicking the torch next to the door blocked by the cage? If this is the same kind of room I found today, the torch is a switch. You'll occasionally find that to get past a spot, you need to click an object.
