What are the "Must-Have" mods of Morrowind

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 7:45 pm

I'm actually pretty new to modding in general. Right now Im using better bodies, mvp texture pack and..... that's it.
What would you suggest? What do you use personally?

Thanks again, buddy.

Like many people will say, there are no "must-have" mods. (except for the patches, for 99% of us)
Morrowind is easy and versatile to mod the game into what you want it to be, so there are many mods to choose from and no two people agree on which group of mods make the game better.
I think I explain it quite well in the above linked thread, and it basically just comes down to what you consider a good addition to your gameplay style.

There are many good mod-lists that modders have made to express their tastes, check them out and have fun. :)

 Great shameless plug AA

To the OP - Occasionally there are threads on this forum where someone asks "Show us what you're playing with" And posters regulary show their modlist with counts over 100 - there are some patterns to the lists but the beauty of Morrowind and its mods is that you can pick and choose ones for the type of game you want to play whether that be a standard player:

1. warrior (weapon, armour and dungeon mods)
2. Mage (magicka regenerating scripts, enchanted items, alchemy sorting and chair polishing mods)
3. Stealthy (lighting and sneaking abilities, thief quests large homes with storage for everything that has been nicked or enhanced merchant wallets so they will buy it all in one day)

Or the non-standard player:

4. Sightseer (texture and mesh replacers, MGE)
5. Social Player (LGNPC, quests, face, hair and clothing mods)
6. The lets make this as real as possible Player (Galsiah's leveling, NOM, MW Crafting)
7. The voyeur player - oops can't talk about those mods here

Or there is the no-player:

8. just collects mods - looks at them in the CS or Nifskope and admires or criticises the work put in
9. the forum goer - knows a lot about mods likely never got past level 10 in the game but has found thier true calling is spending time here making friends and trying to get their Master or Patriarch achievement by commenting as much as they can in threads normally things like - "that looks good"

So it's hard to recommend modlists if we don't know what kind of player you are :)

4. Sightseer (texture and mesh replacers, MGE)

I don't think I've played any other kind of character the last half year. I blame MGE and Vurt and a few other wonderful people...

Illuminiel, that has got to be one of the greatest, and truest things anyone has ever said on here.

That said, I think Pluto had it pretty right in that almost all of us can agree on the patches. Though I would add to that that it's pretty standard now to at least add a version of Better Bodies and a head replacer. The default characters look pretty dang ugly by today's standards.

Illuminiel is spot on. Seriously, there should be a sticky (stickies are grossly underused here in my opinion) that "There are no 'must have mods'".
Now I'd say there were only three:-

1. Better Bodies.
2. Your choice of head replacer.
3. The MCP, which arguable isn't strictly a mod.

Of course, there are those who adore the original sausage bodies and the ugly original heads, and some decry that they don't understand what the code patch actually does, so even those three wouldn't rate as universal.

I think I fall under the "no-player" category >.>

[...]

So that would make me a Social warrior player. ^^

Apart from the patches (MPP, MCP), I don't think there's any must-have mods. It's down to personal preferences really.

 I tend to be a stealthy warrior mage that enjoys sightseeing and occasionally seconding as a peeping tom!

Edit: I guess that would make me a collector as well!
