[WIP] House Wars

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 3:40 am

This is my latest project that has been under wraps for a while but now its time for some suggestions. It will be based on my castle wars system which is an esm and, if anyone can figure it out, is welcome to make mods for it. Most importantly i need to know what you guys want to see in a mod like this, what great houses, any important info, or any comments. Now that i have finished CW (Occasional Updates) I can work on this. So now you can answer the question, If all the houses got in a big war who would win.

I've yet to try out Castle Wars, I'm afraid, but I do like the sound of this idea.

Let's see...Since this is Vvardenfell, Hlaalu, Redoran and Telvanni should be the only Great Houses involved.
Redoran should have few and expensive warriors, but they would be be stronger and better equipped than the warriors of the other houses. Like their doctrines state, they should primarily wield longswords and spears. They could be backed up by temple priests and a few scouts with ranged weapons.

Hlaalu wouldn't rely on brute strength, but would instead use their wealth to hire mercenaries and the like, and use their own stealth and guile to back them up. In a realistic setting, Hlaalu would probably use political manoeuvres to win rather than military ones, but that's not what this mod is about.

Telvanni, like Hlaalu, would primarily rely on mercenaries, but with less wealth, they wouldn't be able to hire as many. They would, however, be able to provide them with enchanted items and other magical trinkets, as well as provide backup with their powerful spellcasters.

That's my opinion, anyway.

While the very idea of a triumphant House Dres makes me drool, I doubt they would bother going all the way to Vvardenfell. I mean, what if they ran out of their black eye makeup stuff?

Same here.

I strongly against that Telvanni is part of this mod, because who knows what would happen when you have http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1100327-relz-pozzos-rise-of-house-telvanni-v14/ mod installed with the House Wars mod. :ahhh:
Perhaps with a compatibility patch it could worked, but I doubt that would be playable at all.

Good point. I like it.

Great feedback, so if I got this right its; Telvanni Hlaalu Redoran and no Dres and what about Indoril... So any more comments on the idea or important things I should know about the houses.

And those characters who aren't Telvanni would really enjoy a chance to kick Telvanni butt in this mod. I don't think you can really expect this mod to be RoHT-compatible. In fact, RoHT's a mod I'd see as only being used with a character you specifically want to play through its storyline with. Attempting to make other Great House-affecting mods compatible with RoHT would be trying, as bhl acknowledged in his readme when talking about Grandmaster of House Hlaalu by Lady Galadriel.

So, Falador: add the Telvanni victims

@Falador:
Indoril, like Dres, have no holdings or interests on Vvardenfell.

Capturing strategically placed Velothi towers seem to be among the main military interests of the various Great Houses on Vvardenfell at the moment. If possible, capturing these should give a variety of benefits depending on their position. The same goes for plantations and mines.

Redoran would probably start off with the least beneficial territory. To balance this, they should also start off with more warriors than the rest. This would allow them to start gaining more territory relatively early.

Hlaalu would probably start off with the most plantations and mines, but they wouldn't be all that well equipped to protect them. They would, however, be able to use this economic basis to relatively quickly expand their military forces.

Telvanni would occupy more towers, and be firmly entrenched in them, but wouldn't be all that well equipped to strike from them early on.

Hiring Morag Tong assassins could also be an option for all three houses, but I'm not sure what purpose this could serve. A really expensive one-shot kill of an enemy general with x% success rate perhaps?

Oh, and you may want to mix in some summoned monsters in the ranks of the Telvanni. Nothing too major, but it would make sense.

Is there any chance that Castle Wars may be made compatible with Deus Ex Machina?

Love the idea, I always wondered what the point of strongholds and guards was. Can morrowind handle lots of npcs though?

Actually I do limit the amount of npcs out at a time but morrowind does fairly well in handling them.
