GOTY Save File Issue

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 1:46 am

Hi everyone.

When I load my save file, it says that I'm addicted to a drug, and that I've discovered several locations and that I can fast travel to them. I have no items, quests, map markers, ect., and I start in front of Vault 101. Can anyone help me?

I'm running it on Windows XP. My computer runs the actual game just fine, and exceeds the Minimum requirements. The game is updated to the latest version. I haven't installed any DLC yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE

I just uninstalled and reinstalled Fallout 3 and the DLC, so I'll see how it works now.

That means that your save has become corrupted and won't work right anymore. You'll have to go back and use another one. If you're relying only on your Auto-Save, and don't have another one, consider this a lesson in saving often and in different slots. You should either be using a save manager like CASM or making your own manual saves on a regular basis. Saved games using the Gamebryo game engine can sometimes become corrupted, and you want to make sure you have some sort of back up to use instead if your Auto-Save screws up.

Yes the Auto-Save does work, but sometimes your save file can become corrupted. For instance if your game crashes just as it's doing it's thing, then that save won't be any good anymore. You need to have some sort of backup just in case, so you don't lose your whole game. CASM is a good save manager to use, you can set up different slots and set a time interval for auto-saving. So if you have it set for every 10 minutes, you won't lose alot of playing time if something screws up. Or you could just go into your menu and do a manual save on a regular basis, like after a really tough battle so you don't have to repeat it again.

Cipscis' Auto Save Manager. Cipscis is the author. Another one that works well is ASU (Auto Save Utility). It has an advantage in that it saves after every battle as well as by a timer. It's not always as easy to set up if you want to make changes to the default functions though, as you need to go through the console. CASM can be set up using a menu you can access through your Pipboy so it's a little easier to configure to your liking.
