mentors and powers to gain more attack/defend animations

Throughout the game I think there should be mentor quests that you hear from the rumor section. Then depending on the school you get specific attack animations and maybe an attack combo. This can also include spells and dodge animation. It would be really cool to use a katana like a samurai or create devastating storms.

Those are some really good ideas.

I think that could get repetitive if you keep doing that with all your characters. I like having the option to become powerful in the game without having to do so many tasks for the NPCs.

Trust me this is not as repetitive as swinging your sword like a lumbering club and casting small spells from your hand. I'm saying the attack animations and combos would make your character look pretty godlike and masterful towards the end of the game.

Ya once again, I think that having to learn learn every fighting combo after doing a quest from some trainer just to learn how to slash your sword is a bit to much. It crosses that line from "immersive" into "This is freaking [censored]! Why do I have to do 5,000 different things and this old guys laundry, which takes forever because I'm at a low azz level, just so I can learn how to swing my arm twice in a row!?".

You get where I'm going with this.

But still interesting idea though. :tops:

I'm just saying it can be annoying to have to keep doing the tasks each time you play the game to get what you want. I found it to be problem with Oblivion too, like if I wanted to get all the spells I wanted I had to join the Mages Guild. There should be other ways of getting the abilities you want for your character. Not saying your idea is bad, I just don't want the game forcing me to do the same thing each time I want to make my character a certain way. It's supposed to be a non-linear game anyway.

Why do you have to do 5k things for someone? It could be just as easy as finding the guy with the fighting style and paying him to teach you how to fight a different way, but if you aren't high enough level you'd have to apprentice him until he lets you buy it.

IMO it should be more of a cosmetic change, the weapon swing animations got old after 50 slashes in oblivion.

I think you're taking the quest thing a little over the top. It can be anything from paying the guy or fighting him or his students. Hell it can be a meditation trip quest a **** ton of projections(yes this is from inception).

In addition it would be really cool to include vats to the game. You can determine what kind of blocks and attack animations to use and how to take on a group of enemies.
