This concept should probably be done by other games, it doesn't really fit TES

I don't see what an optional approach to it would hurt. So I vote "sure."

It'd have to be optional, and hopefully not high on the list of priorities, don't want something that might not work to svck resources from another more important feature.

And it'd have to optional, just because some of us have not-so-americany-accents, even though we've lived all of our life so far in the U.S.

Trust me, the accent thing is a real pain in the but with this kind of software.

Speak for yourself, I have lived all of my life in Great Britian.

I can already see the problems......

"Guard! Where can I find the lord of bravil? says player in mic

"YOU ADMIT TO KILLING THE STORE CLERK?! STOP CRIMINAL!!" says Gaurd

"Wait? What? All I asked is where the lord of bravil is!"

"Get him men, he is resisting"

"This is Bul......."

*Kills player*

Hey You!.... Pikachu...

No but seriously, speech-to-text is really amazing now, I think its in the new Microsoft Office and works flawlessly (don't quote me on that, just something I remember reading about during beta). Anyway, I still don't think it is developed enough, or maybe AI isn't developed enough, to where it would be really immersive. It would just seem like instead of clicking a pre-set option, I'm sayin' a pre-set option, which still reminds me I'm playing a game.

I don't think the tech is nearly at the right level yet.

I mean, simple command words would work, but I do not believe that such a system would be an asset to the game.

Until you can converse casually and complexly, I can't see an advantage to it -- particularly considering your hands are on a mouse and keyboard already anyways.

I was going to say if/when that happens, but I'm a tech optimist and I'm pretty sure it will be their someday, just not any time soon ... but when, eventually, you can talk to characters in the game like they were humans rather than simple "if - then" style lines of code, and have them respond dynamically rather than picking from pre-recorded .wavs -- then it will be a real addition to a game. But we may be all dead and gone by the time that happens, because thats sci-fi crazy stuff.

Mass Effect did it, where you basically pick the general thing and then the character runs with it. However, in that you are always Shepard. In TES you are anyone. Theoretically it could work, but it would take a lot of time, effort and disk space.

I don't think that's the type of voice interaction the OP meant, though I did enjoy the Mass Effect way.

No thanks. I don't want to spend a ton of money for a gimicky item. If there would be voice interaction, I would hope it could be through a PC mic and the mics that the PS3/360 mics.

Voice interaction, eh? I'm expecting most Dunmer to understand muthsera, s'wit', n'wah, and fetcher. I'm also expecting another Ayleid sorceror-king, just like Umaril, and I'm expecting him to understand abagaianye sou.
