Any good mods for someone new to TES3?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 11:14 pm

I'm kinda new to the plugin/mods thing and I was wondering what would be a few mods that I could use. Here's a list of types of mods I'd be interested in:

1. Any mod that updates graphics or something (I've seen quite a few mods that kill the T rating, keep it rated T plz. No nudity)
2. How about a better selection of robes?
3. Some cool looking weapons that are no better then daedric (Over powered weapons would ruin the game)

If you recommend a web page plz give the name of the mod as well. (this is common sense but there are still people out there with none)

Thanks in advance for those who help

To add to this one, while not high rez, I am quite fond of Richer Textures (to which I would normally provide the link, but I just woke up). And Westly is working on a head replacer that is almost done and has a lot of us on the edge of our seats. The finished races are available from the WIP thread, I believe. Also, as far as weapons go, I'm a big fan of Assassin's Armory.

I'm trying to download better bodies mod from BTB's site, go to another site (Planet elder scrolls) and when i try to download: I'm sent to yet another site saying I need a fileplanet account. *sigh*
thanks for the help BTB but do you (or anyone else) got any better sites to download the mods?

You don't actually need an account with Fileplanet. There's an option for a non-member download, which is supposedly slower though I've never noticed it to be.

EDIT: Let me rephrase that, you do need an account, but not a subscription. There's a "Register for free" button in the upper right. Sorry about that.

Yes, you have to register at FilePlanet before you can download... but it is free.
Planet Elder Scrolls has the biggest selection of mods. It is a trusted site and all the mods are free.

Honestly, there is no better place than PES in most cases.

TES Nexus looks more organized, and it's easier to find the mods you are looking for there IMO.
It does not have nearly as many Morrowind mods as PES has though, many of the mods I think of as essential are not on the Nexus, but on PES.

ok, I have a problem and a possable solution if someone can help me out.

Heres the problem:
I'm at a libary computer trying to download these and found out I can't. I've got an external hard drive I was going to use to take it home to my internetless computer. I did however find a way around the download block, but i can only do it if its in a zip folder.

possable answer: if someone could put the following mods into a zip folder i'd be able to use them. I dont expect anyone to do this for me but it's still worth asking. heres the mods i'd like to try:

Better Bodies (Permament underwear version)
Better Heads
Mesh Improvements
Morrowind Graphics Extender
CanadianIce' Robe Replacer
Weapon Compilation Mod by farrp

If anyone dose help me heres my e-mail to send the zip folder to: jessie_smith24552455566@yahoo.com

All the files already are zips when you download them anyway so no need to rezip them

well then it looks like i'll just have to play the game the way it was orignaly made then. oh well............ (its still a great game left as it is though)

EDIT: I've just noticed that only the better bodies has the run and save options, most of the others (well, i've only tried the Weapon Compilation Mod by farrp but i'm assuming the rest will do the same thing) have find and save options. As I've said before if I hit the save button it won't let me download. I've gotten arround the download block but only with ziped folders.
btw, if its a zipped folder it has open and save options, if i hit open theres another option called extract files and from there i can get past the block.

ANOTHER EDIT: Ignore this post, look below.

Are you sure?
Not all archives look like a zipped package. (some are just white icons)
Chances are you can Right click on them and extract them normally.

There a few automatic installers, but they are very rare. (like Better Bodies) And will look very obviously like an auto-installer.

A few mods I've seen are not zipped.
Most are zip'ped.
Some are 7zip'ed
Some are Rar's.
A select few are exe's.
Haven't seen any use Bzip2... Could be wrong.

Recommended to have 7Zip, i love the program and it handles 95% of the formats commonly used.

A Note, if you are trying to download using the link just by left-clicking, try right clicking and select 'Save Target As'. This can force it to download a file regardless of type and the system won't try to execute it, so it shouldn't prevent you from downloading it.

Yeah, but WinRAR (And I'm assuming others like 7zip) will unizip any archive. It's just that the Desktop icon doesn't appear correctly.

The 'Save Target As' won't work, I've tried this already. The only way I've been able to get around this was if it was in a zip folder. I've got a few mods I've brought home but there are still a few I can't get.

Can't you ask some friend with internet package that offers unlimited downloading to download a bunch of mods for you? Or if non has such a thing, to ask a few to download 1-3 mods each and give it to you that way?
