Elephants run into each other, shoving on follow package

I have some elephant mounts and pack beasts that I want to follow each other in a spaced out line. At present the silly sods just plough into one another like a mad traffic jam. They follow too closely is the problem. How can I get them to follow at a decent distance?

IIRC for a follow, the 'value' field on the Target tab indicates the distance (in game units) at which to follow. If that field is 0 your elephants won't be satisfied unless they're right up the other elephant's....er, right on top of the other elephant.
To get a quick, rough idea of what value to use, place two elephants in the CS right on top of each other, then move one of them along either the X or Y axis until the distance looks right; then enter the difference between their X (or Y) coordinates in the value field.
