Combat Knife- Weapon vs Accessory

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 1:48 pm

It's relevant because I'm always going to take the opinions of those who seem to want Brink to be a first person Assassin's Creed with a grain of salt. I don't even know how this thread has lasted this long. The knife is not going to be an independent weapon. No amount of "But it should be!" is going to change that. Yeah, it's worked in other games. Yeah, it can be balanced. Yeah, I don't care. Brink is Brink. They've already established a perfectly functional and balanced melee system. I for one think that it is just fine the way it is, and that making the knife a standalone weapon would seriously screw up the balance and require a lot of gameplay changes.

And I'm not undermining anyone's opinion. They can think whatever they want, I don't care. I'll disagree or agree when and where I feel like it. Probably explain my reasons too while I'm at it, since I'm such a nice guy.

1.What is a knife fight in a first person shooter
2.How does it add to the game, your comment includes the idea that smart allows you to knife while doing semi-advanced moves. In my opinion the knife is more powerful move that should be executed behind a person. Instead of turning Brink into a annoying knife fest, though some players may enjoy this I can only see this driving away many players.

You are right, this is and of course should be a first person shooter not a melee fest. But with smart in Brink you could add so much more to using the combat knife than in other games. I am not saying that Knives should be better or even equal to guns but there are alot of possibilites that have opened up because of smart. Brink, at least to me, leans towards gang warfare a little bit (they even have armor made out of car parts in the game). Why not make a knife something which you can hold out in your hand and go running amuck. You'll probably get shot up if you just have your knife out, but in moderation and being well balanced would change things up a little and add to the combat.

Im sorry but, how the hell do knife fights pertain to completing objectives.

Is a knife any more of a weapon/tool than a gun? Does a gun help you in anyway different in that of a knife? A lesser one perhaps. but in certain circumstances could be more useful and could be more fun.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In short combat knives as "weapons" adds to:
1) the Gang warfare element
2) the combat, for varieties sake

Apart from your original question:
Which would make you feel more gangster, running around with a gun and all of a sudden running a guy through with the press of a button and barely seeing the knife? Or being able to see the knife like you would any other weapon, in your hand and ready for use? Besides who has seen a gangster movie where they just shoot at each other and knives just as an accessory lol. :gun:

If you read the thread, I had already said on multiple occasions that this is NOT a petition to have things put into the game, it's merely a discussion of what people like, with the game as a reference point.

Calm down? Grow up I am calm, are you incapable of engaging in argument without being angry?

That would require me to be argueing with you and i assure you im not angry in the slightest. From the looks of every post of yours so far you've taken everything said personally and lashed out, hence the reason why i said to calm down. If you want to have an arguement please feel free to pm me and save the rest of the people on the forum from listening to your petty drivel.

I haven't been lashing out at all, just engaging in argument based on the topic at hand.

You know argument does not have to involve aggression or emotion right? In fact, I'm one of the few who uses reasoning without having to fill the gaps in my argument with emotionally charged adjectives such as 'stupid'.
