Never have seen this one before

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 1:33 pm

Oblivion never ceases to amaze me. After three years of playing, I STILL see things I've never seen before.

***SPOILER***

I killed a bandit and he flopped onto the ground pretty hard. Dead. I thought. He half sat back up and yelled "Ha!". I got my spell ready to kill him and he just fell back down and died without me doing anything.

I think this was the effect of being knocked out by being hit with a DoT (damage over time) attack. If not, then a glitch. Still interesting though. :)

That happened to me about 3 times today! First time I thought they were dead and turned away when I got a warhammer in my back. Turned around and I was like !?!!? I just killed you!!! After that I stared at everything I killed for a few seconds to make sure it was dead

New experience today, heard a male Dunmer in Cheydinhal singing about flying. He was standing in a street at the southern part of the town and he could not sing it was terrible to listen to.

I believe that was Aldos Othran. He's drunk. There's a quest involving him, by the way. :P

I can picture people doing that with those weapons.

Loading a bow with two arrows at a time, or stabbing a person with a dagger twice.

I think this as well, I generally have a lot of great moments because of the random dynamic nature of Oblivion.

My archer fights with detect life gear on. The higher level marksman perks can knock down or paralyze foes, so she relies on whether the pink glow fades when they fall, to determine if they're really dead. The song of Azura's Star can help with this too, if they are not NPCs. :dead:

I played through the game once and experienced multiple times where non-hostile NPCs attacked each other and myself.

Yes, there are some NPCs which are known to commit crimes accidentally and thus start fighting.

For me, every time I visit the Bruiant houshold in Chorrol, someone winds up dead. Same thing happens whenever I hang around the outside of the Skingrad Main Gate for too long.

I think this bug is fixed by the Unofficial Patch. Rimalus Bruiant does not belong to the same faction as Rena Bruiant and the dogs, so sometimes he just attacks them (his high aggression is a factor here too).

I do the same thing. It's horrible when you shoot someone, paralyze them, think they're dead and walk nearer only to have your query jump up and start hacking and slashing at you! I had the shock of a lifetime when that happened with a zombie once.

The skeletons are the worst for the "getting back up once dead" trick. An archer with knockdown sees them fly apart (which also spreads out that Detect Life glow so it's hard to see) but then the pieces come back together and they're coming for you again! Only appropriate for an undead, I suppose, but annoying!

That′s why I always keep my weapon ready if they decide to... start living again. Even though the battle music has ended

Same thing happens with storm atronachs, so awesome seeing them kind of rewind back together once they awake.

Angel doesn't have the force to knock anyone down but it happens sometimes with her Clannfear. Fortunately, the Clannfear is not fooled.

The weirdest thing I ever saw was a Legion Patrolman who died fighting a Daedroth from a nearby OB gate. Severus tried to keep the Legionnaire alive by healing him rather than join in the fighting which usually resulted in an accidental assault charge. It was the middle of the night and Severus was wearing the most powerful Detect Life Sigil enchantment I have ever seen; 180 (yards/feet/?) distance and constant effect. The Legionnaire still had a glow of life even though he appeared to be dead. Severus was able to examine his inventory just as if he was dead. He took off the enchantment and tried a Detect Life spell and no glow. Only the ring showed that there was still some life left in the Legionnaire. I always told myself afterwards that this is why they can respawn.

Exactly, I've seen that happen quite a few times with those types of spells. Trolls have a tendency to do that since they seem to have some regeneration capability.

Eh, just yesterday I had an odd experience: I managed to backstab bandits with battle music playing

For some reason, while fighting me they took interest in another creature (Moderyn Oreyn and Deer being the "other creatures") and started to neglect me, with battle music playing. So I crouched and slap their bottom, and scored 6x bonus damage :-/

And they definitely saw me crouching around, just won't bother with me. Strange... maybe they just hate mers and were hungry?
