You and Your Unbeatable Builds?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 8:50 pm

Right now I've decided on a Dark Elf Battlemage named Llovyn Arvel.

His major skills are Blunt, Block, Heavy Armor, Destruction, Restoration, Alteration, and Illusion with the birthsign of the Mage. What are your thoughts on the build? Go right ahead and name your favorite build as well.

Looks good, always been a fan of combat/magic characters, might want to go for light armour though if you are going to rely on spellcasting as a main.

It's somewhat of a toss up for me. I'll cast ranged offensive spells and use a war hammer up close, than use defensive spells otherwise for healing and such. Still light armor?

Well it would make spells more effective, but if it fits the roleplay better and you are decent enough with blunt skills then should be a fun build to play

I'm trying to see Llovyn later with the well crafted heavy armor such as Daedric or Madness armor (with the SI expansion) and the Nerveshatter.

You can pretty much find my opinions on everything build-related in the link of my signature.

Personally I think that your build is too conservative, but I say that about a lot of things and Im a snobby elitest.

This is what I roll with till 11-11-11

Name: Snagarz gra-Loga
six: F
Age: young (slider full left)
Race: Orc
Class Name: Duchess
Birthsign: Shadow
Special: Magic
Attributes: Speed, Willpower
Skills: Alchemy, Athletics, Conjuration, Heavy Armor, Illusion, Light Armor, Marksmen

I plan on making an "oblivion spawner" mainly to have summons do all the work besides you doing melee damage and absorbing effects. Although in oblivion its hard because you can only summon one summon at a time as where in morrowind im used to summoning 5-6 summons at a time. Does anyone know a mod that chnges this for oblivion? :obliviongate:

Elaborate?

Dark Elf or Breton or Argonian
Mage Birthsign
1 melee skill
1 armor skill
and the magic schools that everybody picks

No glaring weakness, no real excellence and no originality. I really feel like Ive seen this character a billion times.

Id spice it up a bit like this:
Change race to Orc
Change Birthsign to Atronach
Drop Restoration and Replace with conjuration
Drop Block for Alchemy

The Mage is nothing spectacular, but there’s nothing wrong with it either (sort of like the Dark Elf in that respect). I like your build, and I think you should go for it. The only thing I would suggest is that you replace Alteration with something else because right now you have three skills governed by willpower in your majors. If you want to stay with a magical theme, Conjuration or Alchemy would be a good substitute. There are a lot of people who will tell you that you should never pick Alchemy as a major, but if you don't plan on brewing a lot of potions (or even if you do), it remains the one skill that you can't level accidentally.

Doesn't OOO allow you to summon more than one creature at a time? I got a fair few mods running and can summon a fair few creatures.

I take alchemy as a major with most classes, it is very useful and a much cheaper option to buying restore health potions all the time, and at lower levels I like to focus my cash flow into other areas.

I made a character on the 16th deciding to make it my actual character and play through the game (for the first time) because Skyrim is coming out, I thought it would last me until at least July but nope.

This is my charactor I made on the 16th:

Class: Ninja

Race: High Elf (Altmer)

Birthsign: The Lover

Specialization
Stealth

Attributes
Agility and Endurance

Major Skills
1.Blade
2.Marksman
3.Destruction
4.Illusion
5.Acrobatics
6.Sneak
7.Security

And I already I have finished the: Main Quest, Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, Arena, Nights of the Nine, and (today) Shivering Isles.

So I decided I am done with the game I am going to learn how to mod and continue learning and making mods up until 11-11-11.

I can see why you would want conjuration as a major but why alchemy? I even use a leveling mod and it still levels up way too fast for my taste to be a major. (Leveled creatures are a work of evil) You can max it out so easily as a minor that it doesn't really matter. I agree that conjuration is an increadibly useful skill but I never use just because it makes things too easy (at least until enemies outlevel your summoned creatures). Just summon something and the enemy is magicaly at your mercy. Where's the challenge? Some of the illusion spells that I use do the same thing but I still can't do it from the start of the game like I can with conjuration.

It may be "conservative" as it's been put, but I've been kicking much ass with this build for a while:

Race:
-Breton

Birthsign:
-The Mage

Specialization:
-Stealth

Favorite attributes:
-Agility - Willpower

Majors:
-Marksman - Destruction - Illusion - Mysticism - Alteration - Sneak - Mercantile

I basicly use marksman as my primery form of attack and throw in a powerful touch destruction spell if enemies get to close. Many of illusion's affects are almost cheating (almost) like chameleon, command, frenzy and more. I don't think I'll ever have another character that doesn't use mysticism because I love detect life. Alteration is for the typical utility spells like water breathing and feather. Sneak is there for obvious reasons (sneak criticals) and mercantile is there mostly because it's a pain to level up.

Alchemy is a minor but I still use it as my primery form of healing and also as my source of awsome poisons. Restoration is also a minor but I'll sometimes cast a low level healing spell after battle instead of wasting a potion. Even though I use it a lot, security is also a minor because it's easy to level up if I want. Now that I've got a good handle on the lockpicking mini-game, it doesn't need to be that high anyway.

Conjuration is pretty much useless in Oblivion, at least as far as summoning allies. I have posted about this in the past, but in my game, enemies always ignore the summons and come for me instead, even moving around the summons if need be. That is, until I create spells to summon + turn myself invisible, but by that point summons are even more useless anyway because there are far better alternatives, magically speaking.

Alchemy is fine as a minor, no need for it to be a major at all. Also, it is certainly not the only skill that can't be leveled accidentally (the armor skills are two examples of others since you must wear armor for them to level, so simply not wearing armor controls them... same with Sneak, Acrobatics, any magic school... in fact, most skills cannot be leveled accidentally, aside from Athletics).

Illusion + Restoration + Destruction = invincible even at Journeyman, pretty much

In the end, it depends on how you want to play, though. For the record, Momoko (my most recent character) is as follows for majors:

Blade
Heavy Armor
Alteration
Mysticism
Light Armor
Security
Speechcraft

This is a typical build and she's invincible by the late teens/early twenties.

I conjure and double team enemies rather than letting them fight for me.

Anyway I dont mess around with counter intuitive leveling. I use Alchemy by far more than any other skill, so its a major for me.

I will repeat what I have posted several times. Conjured summons do NOT attract enemy attention from me IN MY GAMES. I have tested this extensively; enemies ignore the summons and come for me no matter what until I turn myself invisible. Then, and only then, do they turn their attention to my summons.

My point is that players who claim the enemies always go for the summons are mistaken. It may happen for some players, but it certainly doesn't happen for everyone.

Just to be clear, I play with Frans and Martigens, plus various other mods, but not OOO or other complete overhauls.

Class: Assassin (custom)

Preferred Attributes: Speed, Agility

Birthsign: The Thief

Major Skills:

Acrobatics
Alchemy
Blade
Illusion
Marksmen
Sneak
Security

This may not be the best build on Earth, but it's lasted me 4 years.

I probably should've dropped Alchemy and Security, but I honestly don't know what I would replace them with.

This is my experience as well. My conjuring mages usually use 25-30% chameleon and sneak in dungeons, summon the monster as close as possible to the enemy, and then wait for the enemy to engage with my summon before joining the attack. The summoned creature alone can't defeat another conjurer, but can usually keep them busy so my character can blast them without ever being touched. (My current conjurer is an Altmer Apprentice, and uses very little protective magic. She's highly vulnerable, and would notice if somebody was shooting at her. :) )
