Are finishing moves mandatory?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 9:09 pm

Hey people, apologies if it's mentioned in another thread, but are finishing moves mandatory? I'm a little afraid that this game is going to take a turn for the worst, and be changed in ways that appeal to a younger/wider audience (e.g. auto targeting etc). I personally don't want them to be mandatory as I'd rather pick the attack I want to do (e.g. a side-swipe) than to do a preset finishing animation.

We have a thread discussing finishing moves already, it has all the information we know in it.http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1158923-finishing-moves-and-perspective-how-will-they-differ-in-1st-and-3rd-person/ :)

Doubt they'll be mandatory. They'll probably be hard to land so when you do it's stays impressive.

I don't think any of us here know if it is toggle-able but who doesn't want to kill guys in cool fashion, op being the exception.

Hey hey hey... I'm happy with killing people stylishly, but if they're repetitive then yeah, I have a problem.

@Outlander, my bad, apologies.

I doubt it is toggle-able most of the features that people ask for toggle-ability aren't such as fast travel. That being said I wonder if it will only do them if you don't use a power attack to kill them, or if it has one based on any conceivable attack.

Hopefully it will be optional.

IDK I never really got bored of them in Dragon Age: Origins. I loved cutting Hurlock heads off.

After 200 hours a few thousand kills later, it would probably get annoying having to wait for the finishing move to finish instead of just charging through doing your thing.

I've always felt that things like finishing moves and VATS always ruin the flow of combat. I like to feel the rush of taking enemies down and moving around quickly.

I'd rather not have finishing moves unless they are quickly done, like something from Dark Messiah. Any slow motion business will just annoy me.

There is a shot in the magazine of someone stabbing a Dunmer or Ork or something in the stomach and it looks like the camera has changed position and stuff which would really put me off.

I'm ok as long as it's not like fable 3 did it, which is: happens once in a thousand kills, and rarely ever lands the one you want

though from what I read, it seems like it'll happen after almost every kill, and it's different with all weapons/enemies combination, so it's not gonna be the same one for all of the game

I feel the same way. To me, is the "consolization" of games in general... some PC gamers may be old enough to remembver those discussions back when-back-when, i.e., the differences between computer games and console games.

I'm not much of a fan of finishing moves, I think they're pretty cheesy and can get annoying repetitive. It does depends on how they are implemented, personally I'd prefer manual activation rather than automatic at the final blow. I guess we'll find out eventually.

Hopefully, it's somewhat like in the mod Deadly Reflex... .except for the slow-mo effect. It worked this way: If your opponent was down to like 20% health, you had a chance of decapitating and stuff when using a power attack against them. Instead of just decapitation, they could have different finishing moves (even more than one for each weapon).

Well, anything is good as long as it's not like Fallout.

Hopefully they are quick, rare and aren't necessary. I don't want to be forced to kill a dragon with some over the top scripted nonsense like dragon age.

We aren't sure what they are but from what we know it seems like finishing moves are automatic when you are kill something.

I really hope they're not automatic, unless they are very quick things like this get old very fast.

They'll be 10 minutes long and freeze the world!!!!!!

I think they'll be shorter than those in AC.

I hope the finishing moves are like the ones in Dark Messiah.
