What mods would I like?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 4:59 pm

I've been playing Morrowind since it was released almost a decade ago, at first on Xbox, then Xbox 360 once it became backward compatible and now that my iMac has an Intel processor I've finally been able to play the PC version and mods. I'm a purist and do not want to change the gameplay or graphics much, but after so long I'm just thirsting for more content to play.

When I first got my iMac I googled around and found Tamriel Rebuilt. I instantly fell in love with it because it was obvious that the makers were also Morrowind purists. Everything felt like Bethesda had made it themselves from the layout of the dungeons and settlements to the dialogue the whole look and feel was spot on and the added landmass was huge! Not that many quests and still no main quest yet, but enough to keep you busy exploring the beautiful mainland Morrowind they created.

I am looking for suggestions of similar mods. Wether it is just new quests on the regular Vvardenfell, a new landmass with quests or even a total conversion mod like Nehrim which I've recently fallen in love with for Oblivion. The only other Oblivion mod I've found that I really like is The Lost Spires so that should give you a decent idea of the type of mods I like. Oh and the TR people did the island of Stirk for Oblivion which I also enjoyed. Feel free to give me Oblivion mod recommendations as well but I'm busy with Nehrim right now so I'm really here to find Morrowind mods I would like. Thanks in advance.

I think you'd like the http://lgnpc.org/ series. Along with dialogue to make most NPCs, well, less generic, it also adds all sorts of quests for them.

I expect that there will be new Tamriel Rebuilt releases (an updated map 2, adding quests to it, and the new map 3) relatively soon.

Actually your Kragenir's Death Quest looks to be more up my alley, but that's for Oblivion and Like I said I'm busy with Nehrim. Not really looking for mods that just change the existing game world. I want new quests and dungeons to explore. I've tried some that were pretty poorly done, like the game world was poorly designed and the dialogue sounded like a 13 year old had written it. I'm trying to find high quality mods that are on the level of real game designers. What are the most popular ones?

Tamriel Rebuilt, if you want more stuff to explore and quests and dungeons that would be a place to start. Also Midgetalien's Snow Prince, Neverhalls, and Forgotten Halls are very well done and fun dungeon crawls with awesome loot new things to see.

Sweet I'll check those 3 out tonight.

Edit: From what I've read Snow Prince just sounds like an armor replacement mod for an existing Bloodmoon quest... Neverhalls and Forgotten Halls sound cool though.

Landmasses with big quests:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=636

Big Quests on Vvvarndefell:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=732

And I suggest just going to PES and searching the Landmass or Quest sections.

And if you're new to MW mods in general, check the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1060141-mod-recommendations-for-new-players/page__p__15392814__fromsearch__1&#entry15392814 for lots of helpful info.

LGNPC doesn't change the game world really, it just adds dialogue and quests, and it's all very well done. In some ways it's similar to Kragenir's Death Quest (adding quests and personality to vanilla NPCs, and use of vanilla dungeons and locations).

That is essentially what it is but it is meant to be part one of a four part mod that Midgetalien is doing. Pt.1 Snow Prince, Pt. 2 Neverhalls, Pt. 3 Forgotten Halls, Pt. 4 to be determined at a later date.

If you like Nehrim, you could try out http://morrowind2009.wordpress.com/total-conversion-arktwend-english/, after all it is by the same people.

Awesome I had no idea this existed. Looks so hard to install though. Maybe I'll try some others before I irreparably damage my current Morrowind installation trying to install Arktwend. Thanks to Pluto for your suggestions as well.

I'll add my vote to Illuminated Order, and add a suggestion of Lothavor's Legacy as well.

I took the plunge and spent a few hours putting all the files in their right place and installing Arktwend. The installer puts all the files in the wrong directory by default and there's a translation and all sorts of patches and mods that go with it. The translation changes which .esm file you're supposed to check off and that installation guide recommends that you create a duplicate Morrowind install for Arktwend which I didn't even attempt in fear of confusing myself further. After hours of trial and error it was completely worth it and I've even put Nehrim on hold and will pretty much exclusively be playing Arktwend until I finish it, or at least until the 2nd 360 update is released for Fallout New Vegas.

I've found what I was looking for right now and I'll definitely come back to this thread the next time I'm looking for Morrowind mods so I can try out all your suggestions. Thanks.
