Why does helping others make one feel soooo good?

I help people whether or not I expect to get anything in return, even a thank you (although sure it's appreciated). It doesn't really make me feel especially great or boost my pride, I'm just treating others how I'd like to be treated. I don't think I believe it is morally "good," in the same way I don't believe not helping others is "bad." Mamagoto wrote something about realizing the world from another's perspective. There is just something about acknowledging the oneness of humanity that I find comforting among our ultimately solitary existences HAHAHAHHAHA

I would say that it doesn't make me feel "Warm and Fuzzy" inside, but I do feel happy that I was able to help someone out that needed help *sounds weird, but *shrug* o well*. Biggest thing is I help because I want to help not that I feel obligated/have to help.

I love helping animals, moreso than people. Genetics screwed up on me and my "maternal instinct", since I care nothing for children ( :yucky: ) but would defend animals with my dying breath. :toughninja:

Good points I agree with.

When I first came here asking for help, I got it. It made me feel good about this community. Once I started to learn more I wanted to give back so to speak and started helping others if I could.
