Texture Mods

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 3:39 pm

Well, I've had the PC version of Fallout 3 for a week now, and the first mods I'd like to install are graphics enhancing mods. I've looked around a bit, but I'm slightly confused as to what they all are/which are the best ones. All I've found are bits and pieces. Weapon mods that also seem to cover rocks, mods that cover everything but rocks...

Are there any sort of cover everything mods? Weapons, rocks, roads, armor etc. all in one single download?

As far as I know, there's nothing quite like, say, QTP3 or what have you. However, there's the Terrain Pack, which covers a fair bit of stuff, and then, yes, a bunch of other mods to cover most of the rest I guess.

Checking out Arwen's site (the Fallout section) might be worthwhile. Plenty of advice and insight, with regards to installation, load order, tweaking, etc.

You could also try browsing the category of "Models and Textures" over at Fallout3Nexus.com, and perhaps sorting it by file size (descending) or even downloads (descending)... something like that.

If you want opinions or advice about any in particular, I'm sure the folks here would be more than happy to assist. :)

The closest thing to what I'm talking about I've found is http://www.gamershell.com/download_36866.shtml but again it doesn't cover everything (rocks) and it adds a lot of other stuff. Editing fonts, Pip-Boy etc.

Oops, yeah, I'd forgotten about that one. For some reason(s) I can't remember, it didn't appeal at the time, so I just went with a boatload of specific texture mods instead. Ended up looking better, apart from anything else.

I suppose you could just use the textures folder from that mod, and not the menu folder. If I recall correctly, that shouldn't break anything. Maybe worth a try...?

I'll make a backup of it and delete it from my data folder to try it out.

EDIT: Seems to be fine. The mod still changes some stuff besides the textures themselves, obviously (descriptions of guns and blood on screen, specifically...) but that's fine.

EDIT2: I'm going to save myself the hassle and just download all the mods separately. Arwen's site has some good info.

Just check out the models & texture section of nexus and you'll be all set. There's over 1100 entries.

I use all of NMC's texture packs. I think they are very good and I highly recommend them all.

Spoiler
Here's what I ended up with:

Anchorage.esm

ThePitt.esm

BrokenSteel.esm

PointLookout.esm

Zeta.esm

StreetLights.esm

DarNifiedUIF3.esp

Hi-Res Weapons & Ammo Textures.esp

Hi-Res Weapons & Ammo Textures - The Pitt.esp

StreetLights - Wasteland.esp

MiniHideout.esp

Dragonskin Tactical Outfit.esp

DragonskinBonusPack.esp

Fellout-Full.esp

Fellout-BrokenSteel.esp

Fellout-PointLookout.esp

Fellout-Zeta.esp

megalight.esp

On top of this I have a few texture mods. Took a bit of work, as I had to change some stuff up (Damn you Windows Live!!) But the game looks more than great now.

I don't know if my load order is correct, however. I ran it through BOSS, but I know that can be wrong.
