Fallout 3 Crashes Whenever I Look Suspicious

I suppose it's my turn for a crash thread, huh?

Here's what I mean by "whenever I look suspicious" - every time an NPC yells at me for doing something I'm not supposed to be doing (even if I haven't done, and indeed have no plan on doing it), the game crashes. This makes it very difficult to play, as I can't even look at something that isn't mine without crashing. And if Craterside Supply is closed when I get there and there happens to be a settler looking at me, well...

Well, I partially fixed it. I applied compatibility settings, like so:

There have been three instances where I have looked suspicious (and indeed, I was swinging a baseball bat at Burke), and only one has caused me to crash. From what I can tell, the chance is still there, but as long as I close doors behind me it's not that big a deal. Will update later if I'm proven wrong.
