Runnings sluggish

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 5:51 pm

Hopefully this gets to SD. Through all the gameplay previews and interviews with gameplay, I noticed that regardless of what body types being used the running looks sluggish. I bring this up because I may be using light body type, and I really wanna have a noticeable speed advantage over both of the other body types, just so I can survive. There may be a reason for this that I haven't noticed, maybe the running can't be to fast because the SMART system has to keep up with it and make the parkour flow well, but if the speed could be ramped up a bit or atleast make players faster when they are using manual parkour instead of the SMART system.

I don't see where the movement is sluggish. The weapons look "heavy" by their movement, similar to Killzone. But it's nowehere near the amount of "heavyness" in Killzone.

The weapons looks like they weight a ton, seriously :l

Any way to change this?

I agree, the movement does look sluggish and heavy.

If you mean the extreme head bob, you can turn it off. REVO played the game a while ago, so I believe him when he says that the game is not "heavy"

Yeah, I've noticed it a bit too from time to time, although it doesn't bother me that much. Hopefully it isn't too hard to fix.

I think each body type walks at the same speed, but sprints and Smarts at different speeds. I dunno, that's my assumption.

To be fair in the gameplay videos, you can't exactly see what body type is being used since it's in first-person... and most of the time we don't see enemies sprinting and vaulting around, just walking, shooting and ambling around aimlessly. Heck, the only time I remember seeing a heavy character is from the heavy's point of view, with a chaingun. Seemed considerably more cumbersome to me.

Though I gotta say, after a year of MAG, ANYTHING looks heavy and sluggish. It's gonna be hard adapting to all this sway...

I realised, when they walked the pistol was moving around like he was jogging but the character's speed was slow.

Now it doesn't bother me, but before it used to.
+ I'm never going to walk, maybe once to enjoy the little things.

Quote from Skull881
'Movement in first person. Ok so I saw a video on the main website (I <3 you Brink) but when I saw yourself run (like when the person playing in screen moved) he would make himself look like he's running... at a walking speed. They are prob going to fix it but I just wanted to put that out there'

This is what i meant, the guys character was walking but it looks like he's running, cause the sides seems blurry and the gun is moving wildly.

Players are always Medium body type when they play at expos (PAX, E3, QuakeCon, EGE, etc.) So any footage from them is Medium bodytype.

Noticed the same as the OP, definitely looks much slower than RtCW / ET / QW. Hopefully it's a design issue, where movement speeds are tailored to the control scheme used, slower for consoles controller and faster for PC keyboard / mouse setups where manuevering faster is much easier.

Could also be any number of things, weapon choices affecting movement speed and everyone choosing the biggest weapons they can find, no one sprinting / smarting around in combat etc.

After one of the expo's they even stated that they were still tweaking speeds.

Neither do I... But you may think it's more sluggish because you play more games, so yeah.

Of course I say this, and find out players c9ould be Light and Heavy at PAX....

90% of the time, the players in gameplay vids are Medium.

Looks fine to me. With toned down movement speeds, moving into a bad area without thinking will actually come with consequences. If you wanna move faster than that, sprint.
