I'm not talking things like "No spawn-camping or grenade launcher-spamming please", I'm talking about the FPS equivalent of Smash Bros. and its wretched "Final Destination, Fox only, no items!" crowd. I'm talking about servers forcibly removing key game mechanics in the name of some mistaken idea of "tactical" play ("CROUCH ONLY, IRON SIGHTS ONLY, NO MELEE, NO RUNNING, NO JUMPING, STAND STILL FOR 3 SECONDS = BAN DERP"), or worse, trying to force every single team-based gametype into yet another mindless deathmatch for no reason and with not a single warning. You ever been kicked from a CTF server for grabbing a flag? Kicked from a Control Point server for standing on one of the titular control points? Kicked out of Search & Destroy for sticking a bomb down by one of the big objective targets? I have - and it's just the sort of crap that makes me wonder how these so-called "hardcoe fans" can be so bloody stupid as to make the bots look like a genuinely pleasant alternative.
Which brings me to ask, will there be official guidelines on what server rules can and can't be allowed when Brink goes live? From the top of my head, I know that Bad Company 2 has rules of conduct asking that admins actually list in both their server title and the in-game console what mods they have, and forbidding them from removing game features outright from ranked servers (take that, ya stupid "We don't want vehicles in huge open vehicle warfare maps!" crowd). I do hope that Brink will offer something similar, because if I get kicked/banned from a server for picking a Medic and saving a teammate from getting killed, there WILL be hospitalized cabbages.
