How is friendly fire/teammate killing handled?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 6:25 pm

Then don't play operative, also alas there are no backstabs.

Yup, it's a good thing I will not, lol! ^_^

Oh, wait, can the Operative in disguise get healed/buffed/ammo/etc from enemies if Friendly Fire is on or does the throwing of healing syringe/ammo not count as "Fire" (they are like a separate thing from weapons)?

A recent interview reveal that disguised operatives can't be buffed healed by the enemy. Makes you wonder how you are supposed to play along with not wanting to get buffed.

While I understand that it would be unfair if the player you were buffing wasn't actually on your side, it takes away the point of disguising. Why disguise when there are too many ways to tell you apart from their allies?

If I played Operative, the only thing I'd do then is just hack turrets and sneak behind enemy lines with a Cortex Bomb. Disguising would prove to be too much trouble.

Well as the devs say the points of buffs is to make the game more fun why not make it fun for the enemy team as well? I kid.

Disguises in my mind are used to simply slip by, it can't stand up to much observation. Its nice to have an enemy see you bit off and think its one of his teammates instead of knowing your an enemy and the jig is up.

Also I think you misunderstand the Cortex bomb it is essnential the anti interrogation ability for operatives, They try it and you explode taking the ba$terd with you.

Eh, true.

Ah, crud. Forgot the Cortex Bomb was not an automatic self-destruct ability a la COD.

After hearing disguised operatives cannot be buffed by the enemies, then I supposes it is as Wraith says: It's enough of a disguise to slip by quickly.
It is perhaps so you can slip by the enemies really quick and hacking/sabotage or show enemies positions, etc.

Exactly. Sneaking around under the guise of an enemy soldier shouldn't be a comfortable experience, I guess they put all of this in place to stop Operatives getting cocky and keep them moving with the fast-paced nature of the game.

Hm, I wonder if the enemy still gets the buff-prompt then. Because if not, every class can easily make out operatives. "Hmmm, no buff/heal/supply-prompt on that guy, must be an Operative. *facesmash*"

There better be, And everytime you shoot a player, there are Penalty's:

-Warning - Friendly Fire is Not Tolerated Will Show on Screen
-Warning 2 - XP will be deducted
-Warning 3 -Massive XP will be deducted and final warning will be given
-Final Warning - You will be kicked from that match and will get an offical penalty point on public profile. This will decrease the amount of games you can join with people who DON'T shoot your teammates and will pit you up against players with penalties like you. It will work like this:

1 Penalty - Can still join all matches.
2 Penalties - Minor Restriction on matces
3 Penalties - Medium Restriction on Matches
4 Penalties - High Restriction on Matches
5+ Penalties - Unable to join matches with players with less penalties and can only join people that match your own points.

If you play properly with out shooting teammates for a certain amount of matches, you will get a point deducted.

Seems fair?

In theory yes. But the system is flawed, because a lot of teamkills are unintentional. Throwing a nade to trap an enemy, and an unaware teammate with low health runs over it... Automated penalty systems don't really work well in this case.

Thats why if you do do it, there a basically 4 warnings before a penalty is given. Obviously the system can be improved upon but its just a basic explanation. You're probably not going to kill an teammate 4 times with a grenade but if you, there will only be one point given to you which can be taken away if you play properly. Maybe explosive damage should do less damage to teammates than enemies so there isn't unintentional killings like you said but instead a simple damage. Bullets on the other hand should do the same amount of damage to teammates as it does to enemies, because as you know, a few bullets are not gonna kill a teammate if he/she sprints past a fire teammate. If you kill a teammate with a rifle or pistol, you probably did it on purpose since guns don't kill teammates easily by mistake.

Are you serious? :l

If someone accidentally shoots someone, they get penalties that will in the end lead to a ''ban''? What if you think that guy is an Operative and he was not, does it seem fair to get a big fat penalty in your face for trying to do something that would help your team? What if someone runs into your crossfire?

It was just a suggestion, the system would not be exactly like that, just the basics idea like that. Maybe not 4 warnings and then 1 Penalty, I was just making a suggestion to make sure people are not stupid and think it is funny to randomly kill teammates for no reason. Simple XP getting deducted will not stop people from killing teammates because they are amused by small things, but preventing them from playing with people who are actually being serious when they play and letting them play with small minded people like themselves and let them kill each other as much as they want. Kind of like the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 system, where it pits people who constantly rage quit against people like themselves and lets proper player battle it out fairly.

EDITED the system, I confused my post, I said a penalty was given on second warning, only in 4 warnings is a penalty given, does that make more sense?

Loosing XP and maybe a small online ban say 10-15 minutes sounds enough for killing your friends and shooting them

The best system I've seen is server mods that incorporate a query of the person who died. So if you accidentally team kill with a grenade, the person you kill would then get a message popup that says "you've been killed by teammate X, would you like to file a complaint?"

This would allow innocent accidents to go without penalty. It would still not stop people from running in front of another persons gun, but to be honest a system which allows you to vote-kick someone on your team would take care of that kind of griefing IMHO.

You've never played Halo: Reach, have you? As soon as that thing pops up people click ''yes'' faster than you can say ''sorry'' - They don't even thing about it to see if it was on purpose or an accident, they just click, whoopidoop, don't give a [censored] not an accident was on purpose hurrdurr should ban him

You know how you gradually gain points by dealing damage? Well why don't you lose points through gradually dealing damage to your teammates and if it ends up as a kill, there is a 2x multiplier in points lost.

Plus if he kill 3 guys on your team within a set time, you get kicked and banned from that game.

Also if your points are negative for too long (1 minute) (Only way to go negative is through teamkilling) you will get kicked from the game as well.

No, but it was the Martyrdom perk. When you died in COD4 (in MW2, after you were on a dying streak), you would automatically drop a live grenade. I confused the Cortex Bomb with this perk.

it seemed more like crapping a grenade than dropping it int both games, one of the worst perks (especially in HC) the only one that beats it in annoyance is commando.

I seriously just unlocked Martyrdom in CoD4. The match directly before, I died about 5 times from the same guy's grenade he dropped when I killed him. Guess what perk I'm gonna be using now...

Except there is an easy counter to commando and martyrdom: Go for the head and/or use a shotgun then move away. Simple, no?
