Iron Fist and Unarmed at 28th level

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 1:41 am

Hi everyone, I've recently started using Unarmed attacks. I'm at level 28 and I want to know if I take the Iron Fist perk, how much the damage is amplified per level. In other words, what's the sum total damage I would add by picking the Iron Fist perk....then maybe the Paralyzing Palm?

With the Iron Fist perk, you do an additional 5 points of Unarmed damage per rank.

This perk is in effect even if you're using Unarmed weapons (like the Deathclaw Gauntlet, for example).

This is the perk description at the Fallout Wiki. Any help understanding this is greatly appreciated. G

If you take the perk you get +5 damage per rank. What's there to be confused about? Take it once and get +5, take it again and you get +5 again and take it a third and final time you get yet another +5 for a grand total of +15 damage

Edit: Or didn't you know there are perks you can take more than once? :)

I think he may be asking how much damage that +5 equates to

which is an interesting but hard question to answer

I'm pretty sure it adds 5 skill points to unarmed (not 100% because I don't play unarmed characters) just like gun nut adds 5 for each rank or daddy's boy/girl adds 5 for the associated skills.

It adds 5 damage like it says. If an unarmed weapon does 20 damage before taking this perk, then it will do 25 after. It affects regular fist damage as well.

I would even go as far as to reload a save to get all three ranks of that perk. You will become a god.

Oh I see. Now it's crystal clear. I was thinking per rank was the same as per level, which would put me at +5 damage x 28 levels....lol. Well, that's why I asked. Thanks.

I'm not sure of what you're saying. Can you elaborate on the process because I'd like to become a god. What kind of save? A save - save, or just quicksave, and how do you get 3 ranks of the perk by doing so? I'm a bit lost Big Daddy, can you walk me through it? Thanks

Thanks to everyone who replied!

I have an unarmed character. He has three ranks of the Iron Fist perk, 100 in Unarmed, and the Paralyzing Perk. I've killed a behemoth with my bare hands. Pre paralyzing perk, I could kill reavers with my fists easily. With perk, I yawn while beating them. I read your post as you are at level 28, and choosing the first rank. Or are you more advanced in the ranks?

You're correct this will be my first rank/first time choosing the Iron Fist perk. So can you tell me more about saving the game and reloading to get Iron Fist 3 times? I would think that if you load a saved game, all of your data. If I understand you: I pick the Iron Fist perk, save game, reload and the Iron Fist is still there? I'm pretty confused.

Also, you said you have an unarmed character.....do you have other characters, is there a way to play multiple characters? Sorry for my noob questions...I'm learning.

Thanks a bunch, G

I think he was just saying that Iron Fist is so powerful it'd be worth jumping back a bit to an earlier save so you can get all three ranks of it. At level 28, you're not going to be able to get all three ranks of iron fist and paralyzing palm as well, so if you had a save where you were still level 27 it'd be worth loading back to that point (presuming it wasn't hours and hours of play-time ago).

Also, you said you have an unarmed character.....do you have other characters, is there a way to play multiple characters?

You can have multiple games on the go at once. Just start a new game using a different save file.

By reloading, I mean giving up a lot of progress, and getting back to level 27.... but, you can certainly do this with your next character. :) I'm on 360, so when I make a new person, I give them a new profile, if I'm still working on the guy on my current profile. I've made over 12 different characters.... I can't have more than two at a time though, as it gets confusing fast.

Ahhh, Now I see, thanks for clearing that up. : )

Thanks, I see what you mean now.

I think it would be cool to have multiple characters! I've only ever played one character at a time, and always just use the Quicksave method to save, then I load that the next time I play. I guess I need to know the method and syntax of saving multiple files, if I wanted to play more than one character. Could you help me out with yet another noob question. And, thanks for everyone's help on this thread...I've learned a lot.

Ack, you really don't want to rely on only one save, especially a Quicksave as both Quicksave and Autosave are prone to corruption. Personally, I turn off Autosave and never use Quicksave. I make all my saves manually by hitting the Esc button and choosing Save from the menu.

For multiple characters, it's easiest to keep them straight if you create different folders inside your My Documents\My Games\Fallout 3\Saves folder named for each of your characters (Bob, Carla, Petey, etc). When you finish playing for the day, move your saves into the folder named for whichever character you were playing. The next time you want to play, move the last save for your character back into your Saves folder.

You can keep all of your saves bunched up in the Saves folder without sorting them out but it takes a long time to scroll through several hundred saves to find the one you want to play and sometimes having that many saves can make the game a little laggy when saving/loading.

GAH! NONONONONONONO! Never do that. EVER. Hit Esc and do a manual save. Every time then delete the older saves. IF your save gets corrupted (Which has happened to A LOT of people) It will save you a lot of grief. Quick Save is just that. It makes a quick save but it doesn't make a complete hard save. And the Autosave is only meant as a back up. It's in the very nature of a free roamer as Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and/or Fallout: New Vegas and if really no way to work around it. And if you only have one save and it gets corrupted you can kiss your character goodbye. Take a peek in the Software and Hardware issues board for all the help threads trying to recover corrupted saves when they have only used Quick and Autosave.

This. SAVE SAVE SAVE. I have about 15 hard saves. I create a brand new save every time. When I'm comfortable for a while with my character and my decisions, and more importantly, no glitches, I delete older saves. I'm on 360, and keep the auto save on. It's glitched on me only once across thirteenish characters each respectively, for both FO3 and Oblivion. This is why I create a new profile for a new character, as I can keep all the saves separate and not mixed together, which is a recipe for disaster, I can tell you from personal experience.
