Absorption?

Ok, so i was thinking since absorption absorbs all magic can you absorb your own magic? Like if i cast a fire spell on myself...will it absorb it? This could be an easy way to level destruction, get magika when needed, and heal yourself thus training restoration.?

Doesn't this only apply to spells cast by others? I mean you can utilise spell absorption when you activate a chapel font for instance, or an Ayleid well. Not sure that casting a spell on yourself would produce anything.

I've never absorbed on self spells I've cast before, but I've never tried creating an on-self negative effect to see what happens, I've only used positive effects on myself before, and I haven't heard what will happen if you do this from others, and I can't test it myself right now, since I don't have access to a spell making altar yet, I haven't joined the Mages Guild and don't intend to with my current character, and though I have a house mod which includes its own enchanting and spell making alters, I haven't purchased either one yet.

I do, however, understand that one can exploit telekinesis with absorb magicka, I believe some players use this as a means to restore magicka with Atronach characters. It's not quite what you asked about, I know, but it is a way to exploit absorb magicka.

It's taking the long way round. You can directly train Destruction by creating a minimal Weakness to Fire/Shock/Frost on self, which will cost you one point of Magicka. Unless you're an Atronach, you'll regenerate as fast as you can cast it. And even if you are, a single Restore Magicka potion will get you a couple of levels worth of use.

You don't get any Restoration skill from absorbing, although you will from casting such a spell in the first place. It's the number of casts that raises the skill, not the effect they have. If you want to raise Restoration without suffering the damage first, try using an Absorb Health spell as an offensive one.
