[WIP] New merge objects program

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 7:23 pm

I PMed Eeeickythump a month ago and finally got a response. But it seems he's not really interested in working on this anymore. He feels Esper is pretty much done. I suppose if you PM him with a bug report he might answer and come up with a fix. But I wouldn't plan on seeing him work on this again.

Well, with all those missing body parts Dragon32 and I have been reporting about, esper is definitely incomplete. Shame...

I've been using TESTools a few years now and I recently read that it crashed for some people when using a lot of mods. I've always used a bunch, but at around 250 it seemed to hit the limit (not sure exactly what number the limit was as i've always used at least 100 or so). I've been keeping an eye on this forum for a while now and noticed there's still a lot of work to be done, mainly with the missing body parts problem. I'm not currently using Better Armors, but I highly doubt it will merge everything without any problems. I run Windows 7. I'm not that PC-literate when it comes to programs like this, but I do know when strange things happen. If I see any thing weird that I think may be Esper-related, i'll report them here.

@ Judassem - Thank you for that tutorial on the previous page. I would probably still be trying to get Esper running in the first place without knowing how to use is, as i'm VERY unfamiliar with command-line programs.

I just created an esper_output.esp and am ready to test the game out (provided everything works correctly). It is indeed a shame if this is left with so many bugs. Hopefully eeeickythump will continue to work on this at some point. If not, at least maybe someone will take it upon themselves to work things out. A new Merge Objects tool is definitely overdue.

Edit: Well, so much for that. I couldn't even start a new game. It kept crashing to the desktop. I know I should probably keep my mod count low but it's so hard to pick and choose what mods to use. I combined some town expansion and other similar mods to be able to fit more. I'm not sure if the game liked me doing that. On top of that, I had a few mods that had great ratings that i've never used until now. Maybe they were incompatible with some of the others on the list. I've had this game for I don't know how many years and I still have yet to finish the game. Yet another reason to just add only a few things and get through it. Here goes another try.

I am looking for the 64 bit version of Esper as it appears that the link is dead on the first page. I used the 32 bit version on my old comp without any issues and this appears to be the best option for merging 250+ mods. Anyone out there still have that 64 bit application?

Damn, 4shared deleted the download link. I uploaded it to megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7ULEEWYY .
I wouldn't use it though. Smartmerger is a lot better and less buggy than Esper.
