Shocking news about overzealous police

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 4:45 am

this doesn't surprise me at all. a couple years ago a few friends of mine were trying to come back into London after doing something they shouldn't have been doing, I'll admit, but a guy was nice enough to give these guys who he didn't know a ride back into the city.

the city was roadblocked all around, and the police were checking everyone, they come up to the vehicle with my friends in it, recognized them and had a team of officers in riot gear rip everyone out of the vehicle, including the innocent driver and a girl who wasn't resisting arrest, and beat them down, cuffed 'em, and didn't read them their rights until try were in the basemant of the cop station.

it seems to me some, not all, officers get a little ahead of themselves and start thinking everyone that gets into trouble is a terrible person. I've met more than my fair share of cops who shouldn't be cops.

I understand officers are "only human". But to me, if you CAN'T handle the power, stress, fear or anything else that comes with the job, don't take it.
I'v met my fair share of the same, but also my fair share of those I am glad are officers.

Which is unfair. I can handle a network, but not allowed to due to lack of TIAcomp certification! I demand more! Lol

Happened around where I live too. Some old guy saw a dude at night climbing into a window of a house. The man who was climbing in actually owned the house, and had lost his key. The witness to the supposed breaking and entering calls the cops, himself being a retired cop. The guy who owns the house and climbed in is a big dark skinned man who runs a local Gym. He has a blood pressure issue and well... passed out on the toilet after getting in. Police then break into the house and find a big dark skinned dude on the toilet asleep. They pull him up and angrily and aggressively force him into restrains and arrest him. Turns out, he tells them he owns they place, they take a moment to check it out, and when they do, they let him go. He calls them out... ongoing legal battle.

[censored] like this happens all the time. One thing is for sure though, we place a lot of power in Police's hands. There is a reason, and we need to respect that. But, it is a two way street. How can we respect them if this happens? It needs to be worked out, not a hatefest.

Just realised that some of my attitudes may have come across a little negative towards law enforcement officers, just thought I'd let it be known I have nothing against the police in general, just idiots abusing their power.

So this makes me wonder how often this type of stuff also seems to happen?

When we start having stories about cops not using over zealous force, then it'll be time to worry.

I guess it's only natural with evolution cops will begin learning how to hide their acts of indiscretion. lol

Aside from a few anecdotal cases that were caught on video, do you have statistical evidence for:

I am not at all surprised this happened, as the frequency of these types of actions are more commonly caught on video. So this makes me wonder how often this type of stuff also seems to happen?

Which seems to imply to me that you are saying that they happen frequently?

FIREDAMAGE, NinjaFish himself, and I have our own experiences. not to mention the people we know. the stuff we see in the news is just the stuff that actually gets reported.

There are just as many dikes as there are nice guys in law enforcement, and this kind of brutality always makes the news. There are probably 100x as many incidents that end in perfectly acceptable behavior, lets not go cursing the police department.

Prosecute him for assault, then fire him and make a spot on the force for someone that respects their job, simple as that.

no, it doesn't. what happened to my friends was in the news, but the police left out the part where they beat an innocent man and a young girl to the point where they would need hospitalization. I've seen people in prisons with my own eyes that yes, may or may not have done something wrong to get in there, but were brutally beaten over stupid little things, like not cleaning something right. you think they get to tell their story? maybe to other inmates, no media outlet is going to listen and support the views of a "criminal".

I meant the bystander videos, even though the wording I used suggested more. I'm not saying every case of brutality makes the news, or that prisons don't have guards that abuse their power.
