Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 8:35 pm

Seems to be a number of different Hi Res texture packs floating about. I am unsure which one to get. I would like to best terrain texture packs. And the best textures for everything else. Can anybody tell me which packs are the absolute best and the highest Res packs possible i can get my hands on.

If you can run it, here it is:

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12056

If too heavy, use his smaller normals maps. They make all the difference in the world.
Then you can just get some nice re-texture clutter pack or two to go with it. That and
a few specifics, cigs, booze, armour etc., and you'll be all set.

What do you mean by the smaller normal maps? I take it this is the best texture pack out for fallout 3 now? Some of the images i have seen look extremely high detailed. My rig is core i7 @ 3.8, 6gb ddr3 memory, 500gb 32mb cache hdd. 4870x2. 24" monitor at 1920x1080 8AA in game 16AF catalyst control panel. Will this be ok to run the texture pack ok? I need to make ini tweaks soon. Also does this retexture rivet city and megaton? i have seen retexture packs for them.

I have personally tried quite a few different texture packs since visual quality is a very big thing for me in my game, and I can say with confidence, this one is unmatched as far as Fallout 3 goes.

Without getting too tehnical, normal maps are a special kind of 'textures' needed in order to make the textures looks as highly detailed and good as they do. The texture pack comes complete with them all, but they are quite big in size and is a little bit of a performance killer on most systems. However, NMC has been kind enough to release a smaller pack with much smaller normal maps to be installed over the top of the main pack (overwrite them) and this pack makes a HUGE difference performance-wise. Visual quality-wise, hard to actually tell a difference so I can recommend this smaller normal map pack to everyone. it works wonders! I run this pack myself. If this is not enough though, he also released a smaller texture pack for the Wasteland to boost the performance even more when out there. I don't need this myself, but I tested it and it is very good too for extra performance if needed. You have a very nice rig and it should not be a problem to run it, and you could always scale back a little on your AA and AF. They are set very high. INI tweaks for graphic performance, some love them, some don't. Some say they are rock solid stable, others say they create more CTD's. *shrug* Up to you. I say, try without and if performance good enough, don't use them. Only experiment with them as a very last resort.

NMC said this huge texture packs includes amongst many other textures all his previous texture packs. So both Megaton and Rivet City are in there and looking better than ever. A personal tip if i may...pair it up with Megalights, Megaton Tweaks, Megaton Walkway and Megaton Closes (Megaton Closes also close the bridge to Rivet City) for the total inside Megaton experience.

I am the same visuals are extremely important to me. I find if im not using 16AF texture surfaces look flat and horrible. I dont understand why bathesda only allow you to use 15AF in game that is a bit odd. I will proberly chop my AA down to 4AA as the difference between 4 and 8 is not noticable. Last time i played this game i got so fed up with the stuttering i gave up. Is the Stutter remover any good? and are their other things i can do to stablize the stuttering?

Well, this seems to work a little different for all ppl. I guess depending on your system, your tweaks, your mods and god knows what else. Personally, the stutterer remover, did it all for me. Without it, I can get 50-60 fps average most of the time, but, stuttering. Not real bad, but I hate stuttering more than I hate bad textures. I can't do it. The stutter remover has for me made my game play, as I like to refer to it as, 'baby butt silk smooth', if you get what I mean. What I did though, was to set it to cap FPS 40 MAX & 30 MIN, and a few other tweaks to it. I then turn of VSYNC in both the FO3, and in the INI file. I get 40 FPS 90% of the time. Sometimes it drops a bit below when loading an area or so, but again, totally smooth. Even over zone changes and all. I take 40 super smooth FPS over 60 stuttering any day!

You can cap it at 60fps. I personally find 30fps unplayable. I will proberly have it capped to 60fps with the min atg 40fps. What GPU do you run mate?

I'm running an ATI Radeon 5850 with a slight overclock. 30-40 SMOOTH FPS, not a problem for me at all. I rather all look awesome, run perfectly smooth, than trying to squeeze out a few extra FPS that I won't barely notice and end up having to lower the visual goodness and maybe end up with stutter on top of that. :)

I like the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3793, with the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3288 installed. It's a huge download, but then most texture replacements are...

My rig is an Intel Core i7-920, 12GB DDR3 Triple Channel RAM, and a Diamond ATI Radeon HD 4870 x2 w/ 2GB GDDR5.

I experience a CTD about every 4 or 5 minutes of game play, unless I use the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6510 tweak. Once I have the LAA flag set, Fallout3 runs pretty stable.

The only bad thing about that program is that i cannot have live on my pc. And 12gb of ram that much svck for your overclock.
