The Arena RP Idea

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:57 am

I think a RP about the arena would be awesome. Except about the players having to kill each other. I was just wondering if people had any ideas about how people could decide which character dies. I was thinking that the players could battle until two people (me and another person) could decide who gets killed and then we tell the people who are fighting. At the same time other players would write about what the are seeing during the battle and/or talking about their training.
Me and the other person would be the blade masters of the arena. One other character would be the battle matron to the grand champion. After people join I would place them equally among two teams. Blue and yellow. Also most of the people start as pit dogs, but we also need one person to be champion, around 2 gladiators, 1 myrmaiden, and the grand champion. The objective would be to fight to the death until someone can challenge the grand champion. The players would have to design their own story about why they are fighting in the arena and how they got their. The person who is playing the grand champion eigther watchs battles or occasionally will talk to the battle matron about fighting animals. Also how would have to be ready to be challenged later in the RP. None of the characters should have insaningly powerful enchanted items such as the grey ageis. Also characters could go into the city with their earnings to buy items an potions. I will decide the prices for items. (They will be reasonable and I will take the prices directly from the game oblivion) Those are my Ideas so far. Tell what you think and how i can improve and what might not work.

Reminds me of an idea I had when I watched 'Gladiator'.

A new emperor is elected, but not many people like him so he makes the Arena more violent. Instead of regular duels, Team vs Team skirmishes and Survival battles have been tossed in. And in the end, everyone loves the emperor because he gave them high-quality entertainment.

I would join, possibly as a Myrmidon or Gladiator.

This has been attempted before, with disheartening results. I participated in one once; or should I say I was going to, but it failed before I could even get my first post in.

Although you have several fresh ideas, it simply lacks the character interaction and plot necessary to have a succesful RP. It's not your fault, the idea itself is inherently flawed. So unless you put some kind of reason for everyone to be there, and a goal they are working towards that is not just combat after combat, I am not certain of the future of this idea.

Another thing that this kind of RP usually lacks are exciting surprises. Twists and turns, new and unexpected events. It's just battle, talk, buy items, battle again, and the process continues until we get a champion. Also, with player versus player combat, neither really want their character to die, and there is not really a good system for measuring who would really win. I've seen people try to do it based on RPing skill before, but I do not trust this system very much. It also leaves the loser rather upset, being they lost because they were judged to have less skill in what they love.

If you can think of something to solve those problems then there is no reason why it can't work, but in the past it has not had much success. Best of luck to you though :goodjob:

Thanks for the info and i am still thinking of the plot and why they are in the arena. I think some of them could be prisoners that are fighting for their freedom. Also i could add new monsters into the fray and when people are expecting 1v1 battles the battle could change into a 2v2 or make an animal run in when they are both injured. Also if people would be sad about their character dieing then they shouldn't join unless they don't expect for their character to win.
