Brink as a competitive game.

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2011 2:16 am

From what I've gathered, Brink will be a fast paced, first person shooter that focus's on teamwork and objective gametypes.
Also, I know that it will have 8v8 games. This implies that the maps in Brink will be very big, to support 16 players with 2 teams to tear eachother apart. (My interpretation, please correct me if I'm wrong)
8v8 hardcoe competitive games, in my opinion, wouldn't really work too well. This is because, from my experience, finding the right team to play with and practise with all the time is hard, unless you really get along with the rest of your teammates. But, finding 8 people who have amazing chemistry/teamwork and high individual skill, to become a dominant team. Would be hard and frustrating to find the best mix.

I'm just wondering, is there any game-types that will be 4v4/5v5 or whatever games?
Just wondering if anyone knew.
Just sayin', I'm half way through the Brink Compendium now or however you spell it, so I will be up to date on this game soon!

Thanks :)

From what ive heard in the different interviews and such the maps will work with 5v5/6v6, it will only take a little more effort on the teamplay(as competetive gaming should be). They have also said that they have had it in mind that it is pretty hard to have good structure in competitive gaming when you start reach 7v7 and 8v8. So i think you dont need to worry about the playeramount being a problem.

I hate it when people say it wont work because it needs teamwork and not everyone will get along. People will do the objectives for points, and people will protect them people for points.

Even if you don't want to work as a team, the game is forcing you to work as a team, for the points, which is what most people want. Im guessing kills will get you points, but from the gameplay ive seen, its like, 1 point per hit. and about 500 points per objective. So youd be stupid to only go for kills if your looking to level up.

The issue with this is that the game will put in AI to fill the other spots to make it an 8 on 8 so if you have 4 people you play well with the game will add 4 others.

What's the issue there? I wouldn't see the problem of clan battles/competitive battles having bots in the mix - just simply ignore their scores and look at the scores of your teammates. I don't think bots alone will be a deciding factor, unless your team just REALLY svcks at the game - in which case you'll be screwed no matter what.

On PC im pretty sure u will be able to turn that off as a serverside setting. No one really wants to play against bots in pcw,cup or LAN. So it will be possible to play 6v6 or maybe even 5v5, that will show when the game is released and people start playing pcws. Thats what i make out from the interviews ive seen and heard. As i said in my earlier post, i dont think the amount of players is the deciding factor wether brink will be a good competitive game or not. We can just keep hoping this game will be as awesome as it looks right now =)

Yeah the great thing about PC is flexibility especially due to the modding community and how easy it is to get involved in the modification scene. If the game doesn't ship with the ability to turn off bots, it will either be done third-party or in an update after complaintz fruhm haterz.

As for people on consoles, you will have to hope to your deity that the "error" is fixed in an official patch/update or something.

Please go through this thread, it's still active and has alrady gathered a lot of opinions/discussions.

On another note: You can turn off AI bots filling in so they won't pose a problem.
They implemented stopwatch mode, which is a very fair mechanic to decide which team does better in an objective based game like Brink. Stopwatch makes you play one side first, let's say defenders. The other team will attempt to complete all main objectives as fast as possible. you have to stall them as long as possible. The next round you will be the attacking team on the same map and you'll have to try to beat their time.

Basically Left For Dead versus, but way more awsome.
And since you can change settings on the PC version, you gotta assume that console versions will have some sort of private game mode where you can adjust options like A.I. and such, how else am I suppossed to practice sweet parkour moves with my friends? :D

Not sure about changing the site language, as you asked in your previous post... possibly in "Settings" at the top of the page. But I'm willing to bet not many, if any, members of the forums can read or understand Russian. No offense buddy, but you should keep it to a minimum.

It's a forum rule that you have to talk English, because this is an international community.

...Getting along isn't absolutely necessary (Why can I never spell that word right without spell check? <_____<) when playing competitively... Hell, when I play in Pubs in Halo me and another dude might be cussing eachother out, but when we end up on the same team the next game we still work together to win... When I joined a clan it translated over. I hated the #1 player in the clan, but when we got put in the same match in a clan war we stayed civil and usually won, saving the smack talk for afterwards.
