How far back into TES do you go? Now about Skyrim!

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2011 4:26 pm

Let's see overall what are the perspectives and positions about the next installment. Skyrim, what do TES players think you will be?

EDIT: tweaked options a bit upon requests ;)

A good mix of Morrowind`s richness and Oblivion`s technical advancements.

For the modding tools, Beth has released the moding tools for their past 4 games, and I hope they do again this time. The only possible issue that might make that impossible is the new engine, so yes I am a little worried.

However I will be playing on console at least for a year or a little more, as my PC is getting old and I need MOAR MONEY!

I would rather Skyrim blow all the games out of the water and become its own game.

My perspective in general is that they should start with Oblivion and fix its shortcommings (level scaling, poor spell selection, combat and non-combat AI etc.) for the game mechanics and look to Morrowind only for the game's atmosphere and overall design. I think most will agree that Morrowind had the soul but lacked in the actual combat, while in Oblivion it was the other way around.

Everything he said, but this should make us think, ohmigod, I used to think Oblivion and Morrowwind were good before I played this. ( Well you can hope. )

-Whatever Bethesda have in mind for Skyrim.
I expect Skyrim will be its own game; as likely to introduce something wholly new as to incorporate the better elements of previous Elder Scrolls games.

-Vital.
Only a construction set is really vital, but I don't like to take for granted the guys who know vastly more than me about creating the mentioned unofficial tools.

-PC, Windows.
XP Pro x64 or 7 x64.

I would a mix of both Oblivion and Morrowind. =) I am not sure how to explain it, but I really love aspects of both. I enjoy the more visual feel of Oblivion, but I loved the sense of exotic adventure in Morrowind. I would love the continuation of choices in the quests and more improvement on the AI / NPC behavior. =)

Daggerfall's vastness and maturity.

Morrowind's richness and immersion.

oblivion's technological advancements.

And a whole lotta Skyrim :)

This.
I can see why people want elements from other games, but people seem to be taking this too far and seem to be asking for Daggerfall or Morrowind again. Skyrim should just be Skyrim, with elements from all of the games, but it should add much more, otherwise people would start complaining that they recycled their old games.

EDIT: I voted for:

I voted vital for modding but I don't really like the way it was worded. It is definitely vital in the long run but I wouldn't mind if they delayed the CS release a few weeks like Fallout 3. Gave people a chance to play the vanilla game for a while. Even if it meant some extra work for the hardcoe modders who couldn't wait.

You are not alone, man :-)

I i had played Morrowind before playing Oblivion, and i just didn't manage.
I had never before played such a terribly boring game.
I also tried Arena and Daggerfall - not my style at all.

By the way, guys, you have a mistake in the poll. PC doesn't mean "windows", it means IBM PC (x86) with any operating system.

And well, i use Linux exclusively and i have money to buy retail Skyrim. And i'm even ready to do it.

Lol, guess I'm the only one that went for Daggerfall then :D Naturally I'd want it to have improved graphics to meet todays requirements, but it could be split into regions with some hand created stuff, and filler materials between the regions with fractal landscape and "auto gen" approach. If Oblivion map was 100 times bigger (*10 in each direction), then it would have been an awesome game.
