How to make a BRINK

Post » Sat Mar 19, 2011 1:30 pm

Here's how to make a BRINK if games could be dissected and sewn back together to make a FrankenGame.
(Or what I see each part of brink "comes" from.)
[Oh and I don't mean to insult, this was just for fun and has been on my mind for a while xD]

Team Fortress 2 - Classes

QW:ET - Objectives

CoD - Experience Points

Borderlands - Weapon design

Mirror's Edge - hardcoe Parkour

???? - Character Design

PROFIT - BRINK

amirite? :D

also I think a bit of APB should also be mentioned :P
(remember, not implying BRINK is a huge thief, this was just for fun!)

Past SD games - xp points
Black Ops on crack - weapon design
Nothing - hardcoe Parkour (since Brink doesn't have "hardcoe" prakour)
Any number of MMO's - Character Design

"Character Design" is MMO-like.

Borderlands had ZERO weapon customization and CoD's is pitiful, I'd say it's like a combination of MAG and Army of Two: 40th Day.

Art style - Unique

Exp system - ET, Borderlands and CoD (?)

Weapons - Borderlands/CoD on Supercrack

Parkour - Less then Mirrors edge (not nesscessarily bad)

??? - ???

Step six) Profit!

Best customization I've ever seen... shame there wasn't more game to enjoy it with.

I find it funny how people go on these forums and try to figure out what this game is a mix of... Seriously, why can't we just say that it's a good game with a lot of original concepts. So what if there are simularities with other games, ITS NOT OTHER GAMES! They aren't making Brink: modern warfare 3. It's Brink a fps parkour mmorpg

ummm... Technically it is.. You may not be playing with all the players at once, but it does have a massive multiplayer... It's also a RPG so i win.

MMO implies that there are "massive" amounts of player online, in-game, at any given time.

MAG has 256 in one mode, but other than that I'm not sure as far as MMOFPS games go...

Anyway, people relate games to other games because it's a nice way to familiarize yourself with certain aspects.

Now let's jiggle on your ideas a little.

Team Fortress 2 - Classes BRINK has fluid classes, which is entirely different to TF2 (and in general most class-based games).

QW:ET - Objectives Counterstrike had Objective-focused gameplay well before Wolfenstein came out.

CoD - Experience Points XP-Reward systems origin from Roleplay-Games.

Borderlands - Weapon design I'm inclined to agree with this.

Mirror's Edge - hardcoe Parkour BRINK doesn't have "hardcoe Parkour". In fact, BRINK does only have an improved movement system with some Parkour elements.

???? - Character Design Again, extensive character customisation origins from Roleplay-Games.

Weird, I was actually just thinking about how similar the guns in Brink look compared to those in Borderlands (not a bad thing)

All guns in Brink are based on real guns.

yeah i know, though if you look at the stylized design they've given them, they don't look THAT different from borderlands' guns - just a little bit more realistic

I'd broadly agree with both posts. Does it matter who did it first? They've obviously taken what worked from their earlier games, but with the flamboyant style it's difficult not to be reminded of TF2 and any parkour-ish games will inevitably remind us of Mirror's Edge.

You get a bowl, put 500 grams of awesomeness, then add 1 epic egg, mix together, then slowly add a pint of wowzers while still mixing. Mix until all the mixture is smooth and runny, put into a round pan, cook until brown put in xbox..
