Help using MGE Distant Land Creation

Post » Sun Mar 20, 2011 7:54 am

Hello, I just installed Morrowind with mods + MGE according to this guide, and the game started up until I configured Distant Land Creation. I noticed when I ran the Distant Land Creation configuration that the distance blur effect didn't work and when I open the hatch to leave the boat at the beginning of the game, the screen stays black but the sound still works(no looping), forcing me to alt-tab out and close the game through task manager. What I'm wondering is, what are safe settings for Distant Land Creation because I can't seem to get Morrowind to work after running it. I noticed that after I reset the settings in MGE to default (as well as leaving the distant land creation alone), the game worked (with distance blur and all the the other mods I installed). I'm running a Q6600 at 2.4ghz[stock], ATi HD 4870 512mb, 2GB 800mhz, with XP Home EditionAny help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

First of all, MGE questions should probably be posted in the MGE thread, however, I'll answer it anyway, the default 13 cell distance is probably as far as you would want for normal playing(honestly, I have mine lowered to only a 4 cell distance, with near statics ending at 2, far at 3, and very far at 4 because I decided anything further out than that and the game just seemed too small), the only thing that really needs adjusting to is the near and far static sizes, which I change to 150 and 500 respectively.

Going beyond 15 cells can, and many times does indeed cause the screen to black out, this is not an MGE problem, but rather a GFX card limitation, I'm sure a 5870x2 or gtx 480 could probably handle just about anything, but the older NV 200 series and ATI 4k series are just not quite up to snuff for "infinite" view distance, and rather are better suited to a "further, but still reasonable" view distance.
