Fallout 3 ultra high issues.

My specs are.

Core i7@ 2.66

6GB DDR3 memory

Seagate Barracuda 500gb 16mb cache.

Geforce GTX 470.

I have the GOTY edition from steam.

Problem i have is that when i set the game to ultra high everything runs smooth and fine. Its when i get to certain places that im looking at the fps will drop from 60fps vsynced down to 35 to 40. If i drop down to high settings i dont get this.

Overclocking my GPU doesnt make a difference. I am also running NMC texture pack the maximum version which is very high res. Turning that off and the drops are still the same in the same area's everytime.

I also noticed an odd issue with the pipboy on ultra high. The outer edge of the pipboy has jaggied lines running all around it?

35FPS is more then enough to play the game at. Its completely normal for the game to drop. Part of it has to due with how it loads the game from the HDD to the CPU and GPU. It doesnt do it like most games where it loads the entire level into RAM, since thats impossible to do with an open world game like this.

For me its not. Its too low and looks horrible. My system should be able to deal with it. The game has an issue on ultra somewere. OC didnt make a difference when it should of. And texture packs dont make a difference so it must be a bug somewere with the game. Like i said on max settings the pipboy has issue with jaggied lines going around the box.

Are you running AA to try to fix the jagged lines? What resolution are you running at? Overclocking the GPU is not going to help too much for this game. Even on my GPU it drops. Having the game installed to an SSD helps eliminate the FPS drop. Its just the way the engine is. With the game on ultra, its object/person/item view distance is increased quite a bit, meaning that the CPU has process a lot more information quickly.

1920x1080 with 4AA. When i set the game to high it runs fine. I distant land lod i push all the way up and leave some other lod options down. But its strange. Im getting an SSD soon. I dont get why the pipboy has this issue. If i set it to medium it goes away. When i start upping settings it goes jaggied.
