Mod to skip the tutorial?

Post » Tue Mar 22, 2011 6:47 pm

I used to use a mod that skipped the tutorial and put you at the exit to the sewers (but still inside). It involved clicking an hourglass on the jail table to teleport. Now all I can find is this one: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25237

which works fine except it puts you outside the sewer, so you can't get a look at yourself and make changes before exiting. I know the light isn't great down there, but it's still something. Anyone know about or have the mod I'm talking about?

Thanks.

Two things you can do, use the alternative arrive by ship mod. Or use what you're doing now, use the "show race menu" while outside, make tweaks since you're in natural lighting(kinda ideal since you'll be outside A LOT) save while the menu's up then reload. There's alternatives to everything, I personally go through the dungeon, though lately I'm debating about using the alternative arrive by ship. This kinda bones me, out of the 300 gold worth of loot I can sell. (not taking the cutthroats mods into consideration)

When I went through it the first time, I just saved right before leaving the sewer. Now I can just load the save and use their menus before exiting the sewer.

With the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11495 you also get to choose a disease, a background, and where to land. SO you can have lots of money or no money, or be a vampire!

I did as someone else just stated, I have a save right before the sewer for the final edit check... though I noticed when I used that on a brenton to turn them into a Dunmer, I never got the "Ancesteral Ghost" Power. But I also the great and grand "Crash on Race Edit" problem that I've yet to resolve... It happens randomly though... sometimes it crashes twice, sometimes once, ... never had it never crash 'cept back in vanilla, CTD and all that ... really should find out what mods I need to clean that aren't pre-cleaned

Thanks guys. I don't want to play through the tutorial again, so saving at the sewer exit isn't an option. This is what I did when I used that other "skip tutorial" mod that put me at the exit.

But after posting, I did find that Arrive By Ship mod and it sounds cool. I like the idea of it better than being a prisoner and skipping the sewers, so I'm going to give it a try. I suppose it will still have the same issue of not letting me change my appearance after the first time, but oh well.

I advise the "alternative start by ship" too, it doesn't try to do too much as some other alternative start mods.
It has 2 downsides though:
-You can't hear the dunmer prisoner prisoner taunt(thinking how you will come back to kill him later :>)
-I don't like the lighting, not good to choose the tone of the skin of your character.

I too am looking for this specific mod because it doesn't change anything with where you start out. Apparently it was taken off the nexus. Could anyone upload it again or could it be found elsewhere?

I'm going to plug a mod I found (not mine) that is a very cool alternative to the start by ship mod:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25591 mod.

This mod allows you to create your character in a low FPS "dreamworld". You pass along four stations, once each for race, birthsign, class and starting location. There are over 45 different starting locations to pick from including each of the player houses in Cyrodill (except Anvil, of course), the Anvil Mages and Fighters guild, various "dives" in Cyrodill, and so on. There are also three "random" start points: somewhere out in the wild, somewhere dangerous (warning "dangerous" means DANGEROUS, particularly for FCOM players), and a completely "random" option.

Reasons I prefer to this mod to the start by ship mod (which used to be my favorite):

1. More immersive options. You can chose your start or chose a random start.

2. Clean lighting for character creation. I really disliked how some start mods use heavy red or yellow light, making it impossible to to get your skin tone right.

3. Immersive quest start. You don't find the Amulet of Kings in a dead rat. You find it on a dead knight. Okay, maybe this is minor, but it easier for my roleplaying mind to accept.

4. Genuinely smooth performance and easy to use.

I would suggest loading the .esp towards the end of your load order. I load it before my Bashed Patch and Streamline and have no problems.

Also, there is an option that allows you to start in the Imperial City Prison chargen dungeon, if you wish. However, you do get all the gear that you would get in another location. If that bothers you, just dump it on the floor and leave it.

All in all, this is the best alternative start mod I've ever seen.
