will brink become the game of the year?

Brink is awesome, but with only 8 maps, it might be a bit small to make GOTY

Yes, 8 maps sound a bit too repetitive for me, but if they are all unique I guess I will be happy.

I see everyone brings up Battlefield 3, and I understand the reasons but I doubt that DICE will add as much fresh and new content to the genre as Brink. They will probably go on with the Bad Company line and bring us the new standards, which must be reached by every Cod-MoH-BF game further on. But Brink goes on a different way I suppose, and although it may not recieve that much hype, it's still more interesting for a lot of us.

This is a very good point and "new" is obviously where the genre should go. However, "new standards" in an already set race is where the money is. Brink is a new thing, itll bring us many new aspects that folks didn't consider in a FPS. However "new" in a battle of established big wigs, not to mention establish fan lines and genre standards will be like the new abstract artist in a world of estalbished artist. The art wont truely be appreciated till much further down the road.

Its like calling Pink the new Black. Everyone whos not "into it" will still go with Black cus its an established standard and the newest Black is the coolest thing. Where as a few might go with Pink to try it out and THEN everyone will realize how awesome it is.

Basically, we only have a year to award this, so the award is going to where the money is. CoD TBA will have a standing, ME3 will appeal to its RPG fan base but BF3 is going to be a new standard of FPSs and right now thats where everyone is focusing on...what will be the new standard in FPSs. Brink hasn't established itself yet, nor its take on the FPS genre. Soon it might be and then THAT game will be the hottest thing this side of sliced bread. Despite our daily force feeding of "we must cheer for the underdog" fact is, its usually the big bruisers that take the cake in the end.

Well said. As long as the whole cake is delicious it just doesn't bother me who gets the biggest slice, and to be honest, 2011 is going to be a f#&ing sweet piece of a cake :D

Shush!

Show me proof of this. Otherwise, keep that hole on your backside quiet.

Maybe he's talking about one of http://www.splashdamage.com/awards#brink? I can never be sure with him though...

I was about to post http://www.gamestooge.com/2009/06/06/e3-09-best-game-of-show-brink/ and http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/actionpacked-brink-wins-eurogamer-expos-game-of-the-show-2105952.html, but your's is just really a much better find.

However, a "Game of the Show"-Award doesn't mean anything once the game is released. And as Homefront shows, a 70-80% game is considered a big let-down these days.

I have yet to hear anything negative from official press and reviewers or anyone who has played it. It seems has all the good things an online FPS should have, and some new things to mix. I believe this will be a very good game. It will likely at least be a nominee.

I still have my money on Skyrim. Brink may get GOTY at some place since honestly many different mags and websites give out GOTY awards. The only other games I can think of with a chance of GOTY this year is BF 3 and Uncharted 3
