Your Favorite Mods

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2011 10:45 pm

Hello, I'm pretty new here, I have bummed around in the non-mod Oblivion and Morrowind forums for awhile, and being an avid player of Morrowind on my 360, I was thinking about buying it for my computer because I have played through it multiple times, and I am quite tired of the random glitches that I encounter when playing it on my XBox 360.

What I am asking for you guys is just to help me find some good mods, whether they be content, increase graphics, or whatever.

I know, I could very well go and look for mods myself, but I don't really want to download and play one that is not really worth my time, you know? Since most of you are avid Morrowind PC users, I thought that you could recommend mods to me.

So I guess my question is this. What is your guys' favorite mods, and why?

Thanks in advance.

Please don't be hating on me for asking you guys this, I got this in the Oblivion forum when I did got it there.

Thanks for the post.

I was looking, in your post, and on TESNexus, and I couldn't find one mod that I think is very beneficial. A journal organizer, like Oblivion's journal, so you do not have to go searching through your journal just to find one quest that you started at the beginning of the game. I was thinking that that mod would be one of the first ones to be attempted or made once Morrowind was released.

Is there a mod like that?

Thanks in advance.

Well, if you get the Game of the Year version (has both expansions), you'll have the changes to the Journal made by Tribunal which allow you to view your active and inactive quests and the journal entries you've gotten related to them. As for mods, if you want to have allies to follow you around and help fight, carry things, and make the game more interesting (personal opinion), I would suggest downloading and using Constance by Emma and Grumpy and Julan by Kateri. Both require Tribunal (Julan also requires Bloodmoon) and both can be found on http://lovkullen.net/Emma/. Some other great ones there so I'd suggest browsing it.

Here's my general list -- you're about to see many, many more of these posts. :P This is where I start trawling for mods if I feel the need to add more.

http://www.mwmythicmods.com/telesphoros.htm
http://www.mwmythicmods.com/themes.htm
http://www.mwmythicmods.com/realism.htm
http://www.mwmythicmods.com/Gluby/Gluby_Main.htm

In Particular:
http://yacoby.silgrad.com/MW/Modlists/VampWere.htm
http://www.mwmythicmods.com/mage.htm

I'm usually always something mage-related, and a vampire, werewolf, or lich fits my style of play just fine. Galsiah's Character Development has been the longest mainstay on my list, if it's any help.

These are a few good one's to try out.

*Tamriel Rebuilt is the Best landmass addition. (just google it they have their own website.)
*Darknut's Greater Dwemer ruins makes the main quest dungeons and the sixth house MUCH more interesting. (use it with Julan Ashlander Companion, there's a patch I think that he provides)
*The Horror Mod is a great quest mod, Very little incompatibilities.
*I would use BTB's Game improvements, just make sure to read the readme :), and be selective with plugins to your own taste.
*Dave humfreys furnature mod is neat (also needs a patch)
*Morrowind comes alive and/or Starfires NPC additions are excellent, they add a large variety of random NPC's and companions.
*Children of morrowind is good for the same reason, very high quality.
*Fair magicka regeneration is simple and sweet.
*World of faces is a relatively small face replacement mod that adds a lot of variety (use with Vvardenfell visages.)
*Better Bodies
*Better Clothes

Tools you will probably need...
http://code.google.com/p/mlox/wiki/Mlox Reorders your load order comprehensively
http://wryemusings.com/#WryeMash Managing and updating mods, also use this for merging leveled lists.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=utilities.detail&id=34 For Cleaning Plugins and merging objects.
http://yacoby.silgrad.com/MW/Mods/Reordermods.htm: Yep

Also check http://www.liztail.com/

Edit: Oh, and be sure to use the morrowind patch project and the Morrowind code patch. these should get rid of many ussues present in the vanilla game. And depending on you CPU you may wish to use http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/exeopt.html Optimizer in order to reduce crashes.

what he said. Also if you want your game to look awesome go to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1120092-povuholos-morrowind-2010-graphics-and-sounds/ and do what he says.

Don't forget to get MGE. (Morrowind graphics extender). http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1135315-morrowind-graphics-extender-mge/

And then there's tons of mods to customize your game.

But for me top priority would be
a)make your game look good
b ) get mods that balance the game (some that I use are GCD, BTB, Hotfusion's economy, BAMF, RAMF and others)
c)creature mods (Creatures 10, Morowind Advanced)
d)get mods that make your game more diverse like MCA, Starfire's and LGNPC, guards mod etc.
e) get quest and landmass mods
f)Get realism mods e.g. NOM, TLP
g) the rest

btb's page has some really nice mods. I use almost all of them. Some of the pages from http://www.mwmythicmods.com/index.htm are kind of dated tbh. I'd stick with povuholo's threads and btb's list for starters and then go to http://www.mwmythicmods.com/index.htm and visit the links to add more spicy stuff. and the search engine is cool as long as you know what you are looking for...

Also you have absolutely have to use wrye mash.
Mlox didn't work for me. If you have the same problem get yacoby's reorder mod and learn how to order your mods.

Aside from the obvious and already mentioned, I usually go for a combination of a good few weapon and armor mods and companions (MCA has some good companions with a sufficient, though somewhat limited, interface). Remember to use wrye mash to merge the level lists so you can find them in dungeons. This should add a lot more to the game in terms of customization and urge for exploration. Try HELLUVA awesome armor, first, which is a compilation of tons of awesome armors that will keep you searching for full sets for weeks to come. A specific site which I encourage you use to its full potential is http://www.mwmythicmods.com/telesphoros.htm
happy modding.

If you're looking for popular mods then the http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/cne/cne_modstats.php will tell you what the c.330 users (or, I guess more accurately, c.330 characters) of C & E Office have loaded in their games.

Wow, I am surprised I actually got polite replies, I got ripped a new one in the Oblivion section when I did that.

About the journal, it does not do that on the XBox version (unless I am missing it), so I did not know.

I really liked how Povuholo's mod changes the graphics into super-overdrive, but, his system specs are better than mine so I may not be able to run it, mainly just the RAM, I have 3 gigs instead of 4.

It some posts it says Wyre Mash is used for merging leveled lists, I am just wondering what that means.

I was planning on looking for the official and unofficial patches as well, but looking at some posts they have different names that are not as straight forward.

Personally, I am not the kind of guy that would want someone following him around as a companion.

But for sure I am going to get:
Povuholo's Graphics and Sounds
Tamriel Rebuilt
I guess Mlox, Wyre Bash, and Testool, unless someone wants to convince me otherwise.
And, when I get time, I'm going to go search through some of the sites people gave me links too.

One more thing, is there a Morrowind Mod Manager thing where you can change the load order, like the one in Oblivion?

Thank you all for posting.

Wrye Mash. Morrowind's version of Wrye Bash.

If you're familiar with Oblivion modding you should already be familiar with the concept of leveled lists. If two mods alter the same leveled list the second mod in your order over-rides the first. Mash makes it possible for both mods to alter the same leveled list. Personally I only use TESTool for merging Objects anymore. For merging leveled lists (and just about everything else) I use Wrye Mash.

Kateri's Julan and Tamriel Rebuilt are easily my favorites. Other than that, I mostly use small tweaks. I don't like to change the style of the game very much.

I'm not that familiar, but I did mod a little bit, and I never referred to those as anything, I just knew that the last mod loaded overwrites all the files before it.

I'm amazed it hasn't been done yet, but @Callmecrazy, you are crazy! :P Beyond that, and on topic, I personally use many types of mods, though I find I download more graphics enhancers and tweaks than anything, I'm especially obsessed with MGE improvements.

@gnomesrule19: That link for http://wryemusings.com/#WryeMash is obsolete and use these instead http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27588 or http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=3646.

I made http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1060141-mod-recommendations-for-new-players/page__p__15392814__fromsearch__1&#entry15392814 to be used as a starting point for using and finding mods.

That's a very good place to start with and I also use http://search2.yacoby.net/ to find the mods I need. :)

When I start a new game, I go to Telesphoros list (mentioned in one of the first posts in this thread) and download everything I like there. The mods on that list is also selected, so there are no awful mods there. Besides that I select only very few mods (the site is not updated regulary anymore, so it will miss some of the newest mods).

But first of all get the morrowind code patch and the unofficial patch, since they remove bugs and make this notoriously unstable game actually very stable.

Return to III - Morrowind
