I've been wondering excactly the same thing :D I just read that CTRL + J might do the trick, however I can not test this as I am not on my primary computer, which has Blendy.

I don't really know much about UV mapping or texturing, but I think that you can get at least somewhere if you paint the objects with certain self-chosen marker colors, and then use Nifskope's export texture -option and edit the exported sheet (with a little help from it's UV map -option, you can get the texures into their right places). That's what I've been doing for some time; the textures may look a little crappy in the beginning, but once you've got the hang of it (using my lame technique), you can progress a bit. It's tedious, I know, but I haven't studied the subject too much (can't you tell? :D).

EDIT: Well well well, http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/UV_Map_Basics pretty much covers everything :D

In blender press the space button for a list of options including joining. Press W while editing for more options. I hope this helps.
