CS Crashes whenever I click on AI

Post » Mon Mar 28, 2011 1:16 pm

I never had this problem on XP, by the way.

I upgraded to Windows 7, and since then every time I click on any AI Package, the CS will crash. I run it as administrator, I've tried running it in Windows XP Compatibility mode, but nothing. I can create them just fine, and if I avoid clicking on them by clicking below them and dragging the mouse up to select multiple ones, it'll allow me to delete them. But it's very annoying if you have the AI you need to edit on the top of the list with 10 other AI Packages below it, and you have to delete all of them because of that 1 that needs to be tweaked from 6AM to 7AM.

I've been able to tolerate it for a while, but I'm making a whole entire new world, and it's pretty hard to fill it with Actors if I can't edit any of their AI so they'll have to stand around like dummies. And I spent tons of time learning how to use AI when I had XP, I know how to make them pretty-much do anything I want them to, so it's very limiting if I'm not allowed to edit AI after I make it.

Don't know if I should be posting this under "Hardware and Software Issues" or not. Sorry if it's in the wrong place.

I also just figured out it also crashes when I click AI in the G.E.C.K. ... Very fun.

My step-brother who also has Windows 7 can edit AI just fine. So I don't necessarily think it's the Operating System.

I recall hearing something about this before-- from what I remember, that person just re-installed and the issue went away . I know AI works fine on W7 for me, even with a laptop (which can barely play Oblivion), so it might be worth giving it a try at least.

Re-Installed what? The CS?

I know that seems kinda obvious, but that didn't work for me. :sadvaultboy:

I reinstalled my OS, and it worked for a while, but the problem just came back, and I really haven't done much at all.

I am having the same problem and this is probably the fourth or fifth time I have searched for a solution. I decided to dedicate a day to fixing this problem, as I am working on a companion mod including new armors and weapons and MUST get this working.

I am using the latest patched versions of Oblivion and CS. I have disabled all of the bells and whistles as far as Menu's and appearance goes including Aero, disabled UAC, have set up Admin rights so that I actually do control everything(true admin account) New video drivers, various compatibility modes, run as admin, everything I can think of except that I AM running in program files because I have seen others post with this problem running out of C drive. I'm at the end of my rope on this and am thinking I may have to install XP which I do not want to do.

If anyone has a recommendation please post up. Someone out there has had to have overcome this issue. If you are that person, please please please post up your solution/workaround.
