FONV FO3

I just re-installed FO3 after completing NV and was pleasantly surprised how fun this game still is. So just how can anyone bash FO3 and praise NV or vice-versa? It is completely being spurious.

People have opinions. I personally won't go back to Fallout 3 because I like New Vegas better.

I'll never ditch FO3. It's what made me notice the franchise.

Well, story wise a lot of people didn't like Fallout 3, but life NV, personally, Character wise New Vegas had better. Unmodded there is a green haze over the whole game, thats kinda of a killer there, i think theres a red haze over new vegas tho so idk. For the other way around i guess people think NV lacks in the exploring department, NV for alot of people has a ton of bugs, some of them can be game breaking.

I had a thread about stating that I don;t think i like roaming the DC area anymore even tho I havent played it in ages. we will see though i am working on getting through it. i think after the enclave show up is when it picks up. Fighting big green muties because they wanna smash things gets a little old.

Well, there's two broad groups about bashing one and praising the other.

You've got the guys who look at these games from a Technical standpoint- these are the guys who praise FO3 but call New Vegas a buggy SOB that shouldn't have been released when it was.

You've also got the Purists- these guys praise New Vegas, while rating FO3 just above Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel in terms of how good it is. In other words, barely worth being considered "canon."

Predictably, the Technicalists tend to be gamesas fans, while the Purists tend to be Black Isles/Interplay fans.

Of course, you've got the third group who simply likes one or the other better for no real reason other than "I like it better."

Personally FO3 turns into a Wander around aimlessly shooting up Random bad guys/ grinding spawn points game pretty much from the get go. Leaves me wanting. I played upwards of 400 hours on FO3 just getting mods and companions and walking the map in a clock wise circle killing everything and selling loot. Thanks to MMM I could get massive spawns so we could have squad vs. platoon action most of the time. :D

New Vegas is alot more like the originals then FO3. I can't bring myself to play FO3 again because I just can't help feel sad about FO3 not living up to what it could have been. I'll be playing New Vegas years from now just like I still play FO1 and FO2, I can't see myself playing FO3 again. Not that its a bad game but it could have been so much more.

Still if FO3 was the game that opened your eyes to the wonderful world of Fallout I can see why people love it so much. :fallout:

Because people have opinions?

I love(d) Fallout 3, and while I don't think I will ever be able to enjoy it again, it will always be one of the best gaming experiences I will ever have.

However, doesn't mean I won't bash the game. I've been known to flame Bethesda and Fallout 3 before, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the game.

I hadn't even heard of the Fallout series before I got Fallout 3. So it did introduce me to the series. I haven't played much of Fallout 2 yet, but I don't consider Fallout 3 to be better than Fallout 1 or New Vegas.

From the moment I saw the trailer for FO3, I thought to myself, "This is what I've been waiting for." The dismal setting, the unsettling ambience, the feeling of hopelessness ... This pushed far past the experiences I had with the Resident Evil franchise. A true survival horror to me, even though that is not what the Fallout franchise is meant to be.

As soon as I caught wind of New Vegas, it was a no-brainer, a must-buy. The setting was a little less dismal, the ambience decreased it's uneasiness, and the feeling was somewhat a cautious rage. It was still a survival horror to me. There's places you go, and places you don't. ;) The gameplay was vastly improved, in my opinion. It is not the same beast I came to know, but it is the same species. I'll never turn my back on either one, but I thank FO3 for grabbing my attention by the throat and driving my face into Fallout. :fallout:

MechaCannibal, you should try Fallout 1 and 2 (and if you ever really wanted to truely be part of the brotherhood try out tactics) yea they aren't up to date in graphics in the slightest, but they are amazing + only $20 for all three of them now. And what ever you do DO NOT PLAY "FALLOUT: BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL" you will regret it. But if your into the story at all 1 and 2 are a must play. the hopelessness and the struggle are even more so there in those games.

And now on topic, I do love Fallout 3 because it brought my gem of a game back to life and made it a household title. But New Vegas, just made me happy to play. The good ol NCR, how they have come a long way...

I'm actually thinking about reinstalling Fallout 3 again... The apocalyptic feel just makes me want to go back. Also, I didn't even explore the Pitt yet.

The other part was hunting down those skill books to get that god factor. :(

Another reason I will not be playing FO3 again. The "God factor" just to easy to become a god. As for the apocolyptic feel try Fallout One if you have not already.

I loved FO3, but after clocking up nearly 500 hrs on it I don't think I could go back.

In hindsight - after playing NV - I realise that FO3 is a little shallow and too easy. More a shoot-em-up with some numbers. NV brings a whole new level of interaction. The quests are better, the NPC's are better and the environment is better.

FO3 is a great game - one of my all time favs, but NV eclipses it in different ways.

Oh and Obsidian, can you do another Never Winter? NWN2 was brilliant. If you can't operate the NWN franchise anymore - just make another D3D RPG. always a big audience for them.

So I played FO3 first. Yup, I did. Does it affect on what I think about NV? Yes and no. I will always love Fallout 3 and it will always be my favorite game that I will still play for years to come. I've finished NV a few weeks ago and honest to god, I can't pick it up again. Please don't flame me here, I've done just about everything in that game including full gamer score (just saying). Since the day I bought it it just never hooked me. Was it because a new company worked on it? Maybe. I think FO3 is a far superior game. Honestly, I love FO3 so much more than NV because of how much detail was put into it. And I know how people love to argue over this put look how many years were put into FO3 and look how many years were put into NV. NV is far from a bad game, I just prefer FO3 and that's just my opinion. But I'd like to say I'm open minded without ticklin' my own pickle here and have bought the Fallout Trilogy. Should get here in a few days and I hope it's as good as they say. :)

Both good games that have a lightly different flavour.

Plenty of hours of fun to be had within each world.
