Map of the entire country? Showing Vault locations.

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 8:50 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew if there existed any canon or near-canon representations of post-War Fallout United States that shows the locations of Vaults throughout the country?

I know that there were Vaults scattered all along the coasts.
Fallout seemed to have focused mostly on the coastal regions of the country.
Granted, I've only played Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but I've read a lot about Fallout 1 and 2.

There's not a whole lot of material on central US.

I'm working on a mod with a traveller sort of character. My original idea was to just make stuff up about the things he saw traveling between the West and East coasts, but I thought I'd make sure to include any details that I'm not aware of.

I have kinda high standards for mods I use and make. I like to be as close to canon as possible. :P

I thought that if central US didn't have any Vaults, he could describe these long expanses of desolateness. Great ruined ghost towns with no one for miles, save the occasional traveller.

Thanks!

I don't know of any maps, specifically, for that sort of thing. I might have seen one or two before showing already known locations, but that's it. So on that matter alone, I can't help you there-sorry. =\

When it comes to the vaults, they haven't announced all 122 ideas(obviously)-in the Fallout Bible Chris Avellone stated it was to give fan fiction some more freedom in the creativity of vaults. And I don't recall them ever giving a map for all 122 locations either. However, you can decide the number of a vault with common sense based on the fact some of the smallest of numbers(13, 8, 12, 21) are one the west coast or nearby it. And some of the highest numbers(101, 87) are on the east coast.

Unless I recall incorrectly, the vaults are not solely on the coasts of the U.S.; they're throughout the entire country. They are, technically, fairly spread out in the geography of the nation. Though fictionally one could make their own exceptions. If you intend to make any vaults, unless you're making one with a concept already made(if you search "vault" on the fallout wiki they give you the entire list of known ones in lore(including ones commonly seen as non-cannon)), you pretty much would decide everything on your own. Obviously there's the limitations of making it fit properly into the Fallout universe and whatever you're creating, but that's the case in anything.

Most are placed near cities so they can get there fast.

I don't know about map, but if you go over to fallout.wikia.com, they've got a list of all of the known vaults.

A large number of Vaults have not been mentioned yet, and therefore don't have set locations. Nearly all canon Vaults are either west of the Mojave Wasteland or in the Capital Wasteland. There are two in Colorado and one in Utah, but that's the extent of our knowledge. There are also Vaults that were in Texas in Brotherhood of Steel, but they aren't canon. So basically, you have a lot of freedom in making up locations for Vaults.

The problem I have with that list is the fact that it includes the Penny Arcade vaults. It's a funny comic, but random crap they come up with has no purpose in an official list. They're even less canon than Brotherhood of Steel.

I agree with that. If it was not in a fallout game why would it be on the list? Maybe if a Dev of Bethesda or Obsidian or even back in Black Isle days gave it a thumbs up then sure.

As for the OP no there is no map of the loactions of the 122 vaults. I hope there will never be, I enjoy the mystery.

Off topic: I just hope the trend with still closed or recently opened vaults ends.
