Banks / Vaults

Post » Tue Apr 05, 2011 8:08 pm

One minor thing that annoyed me about Oblivion (other than my usual moan about levelling), was that I was disappointed there were no vaults/treasuries like we had in Morrowind. I remember spending a whole day planning a heist at one point.

Therefore I was trying to gauge opinion as to whether people would like to see the return of these sort of high value targets, and to specualte as to whether they would be in, as they make great fun for the thief/stealth based character.

Not sure if there was anything in the Game Informer magazine?, that unfortunately I don't know where to get in the UK.

Absolutely.

I remember searching from one at every town castle and feeling sad afterwards.

One of my favorite things to do in Morrowind was to go to Vivec with a higher level character and loot all of the Great House treasuries. The loot was always excellent, regardless of your character's level! Good times... :)

Yep. But I think they should at least be either harder to find and/or harder to get into than Morrowind's vaults/treasuries.

Step one: Enter Great House Vault. Step two: Use ring of Hircine, transform into werewolf, slaughter the guards. Step three: Loot at will.

Mildly related, but on the topic of vaults... I would love to see filthy great big piles of gold, just heaped and stacked on the floor. If Fable III did anything right, it was letting me see what a greedy bastard I'd been, by visually displaying all my cash in front of me. I'd love to be able to see my accumulated finances in the TES games as well. Currently, you can drop masses of money, and after a while, the physical representation stops changing. Which made me sad...

but yes, a return to vaults would be awesome. Stick em in lairds' castles and keeps, and have heavy duty Nord guards with big axes assigned to protecting them.

Yes I would love to find an interdimensional Vault from another universe whose inhabitants wear blue and yellow robes and are trying to understand how they came here.

I have always thought thats a pretty good idea too, having a banking system. I have been known to carry around 26,000 gold pieces, which must be hefty. Perhaps in the 200 year gaps there are notes also. Would add some realism.

Nononono no notes. At least in my opinion.
Notes doesn't feel right. Too modern,

Let the coins reign!

YES! Finally a post concerning this! As a thief I was poor, I never benefited sufficiant enough to sustain my training sessions (at a low level, of course). I therefore went over to being a sorcerer.

Anything that gives my Argonian more places to rob and slaughter is a good addition.
But, I hope they improve on the Law & Order system, but that probably belongs in a different topic.

Daggerfall had banks and notes. I think gold should have weight as well where 10 gold weights in at 1 weight unit. Normalize cost so it isn't as ridiculous as now. I can't figure out why every other bandit is running around in full ebony or daedric when no traders can afford the materials. Perhaps notes should work only on the really expensive stuff, like horses, houses, and house equipment? Blade of Destiny used economics consisting of gold ducats, silver crowns, and copper bits. Maybe that's the way to go? Not sure, just throwing in some wild stuff :P

Yes. I loved the Vaults of Cyrodiil mod in Oblivion for my pure thief.
They should be very difficult.

Ah, the more practical version of the "bank request" :) Screw the economy...me and da boys just want to knock it over! OHHH and with a possibly destructive environment...we could even blast a hole in it too! :nuke:

Hey, since when does the nuke emote not go kaboom? sigh..I need a Crazy Harry emote

I would like to see something like a treasury, but it would have to be very heavily guarded. It would be rather unbalancing if you could just stroll in on Day 1 and take everything inside. I would like it to be impossible to enter without being an experienced thief-type character.

It would be pointless to have it function as a bank, however. There's no need to store your gold somewhere, as it is weightless anyway.
