Deleting save games

I save games lke a crazy person, but I have this obsession with "cleaning up" by deleting un-needed saves every so often. For instance, once I've left a site, such as Deathclaw Sanctuary, and I travel to some other locale, I'll delete all of the previous "Deathclaw Sanctuary" files except for the initial autosave entry, in case I decide to backtrack and re-play the scenario differently.

First, is it absolutely necessary to delete files rather than just keeping hundreds/thousands of 'save games' files listed? Can you have too many save games?

Second, is the file deletion process similar to the "Recycle bin", in that there is some folder of deleted save game files that I should clear occasionally, like a cache folder that might be overfilled or something?

All of your saves are located in My Documents>My Games>Fallout 3>Saves. As to the limit, I dont believe there is a limit, but I usually delete them once I hit about 10 save files or so.

Thanks, Starforce9. I looked in the save games-folder, and each one is @6megs, and I have 450gigs to use, I guess that isn't too much of an issue. I can't see any folder/file containing deleted save games, so I'm hoping that once they're deleted, they're gone for good.

I'll just keep doing as I have.

I have now 3581 saves. The PC just slows down a bit when loading, or saving. No other problems.
