GECK turns screen black

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:48 pm

After downloading several (read: quite a few) mods, I decided I wanted to see what it was like, and if I would be any good at it.
Downloading the geck, I installed and updated it (to the latest version on the website (to 1.5 I think).
Following the tutorial on how to make your first vault, everything was going fine until it told you to delete the vaults contents from the window that shows cell information (it just has Cell written as it's name, and isn't Cell View).
Clicking on any of them makes the screen flash black a few times, and as such it's impossible to select all of them (I've tried selecting the first, then using shift+end, selecting the first, scrolling down then shift clicking).

I took a screenshot of what it looks like
Full sized image, quite large - http://yfrog.com/j7desktopvfp
Rezied version, smaller - http://yfrog.com/1xdesktoprcap

I'm able to remove the blackness from the taskbar by moving the mouse over them, and can remove all the blackness by using alt tab, however I was wondering if anyone knew if there was anything that could be done about this?
I don't really want to go through and delete all the different cell objects one by one (and even that's not possible for some of them it seems).

If it matters, I've got windows 7, and it's not installed to my C drive, FO3 (and concequently the GECK) is on my E.

Anyone able to help? D:

That happens to me sometimes when opening a few windows in the geck. Its odd, but one way you could fix it, is instead of copying another cell, emptying it and making it your own, you can just make your own cell from scratch. On the top toolbar click World > Cells, then rightclick in the list and say New. Then name it, pick the music, ambient and fog lighting and all to your liking. This way you can avoid having to delete everything in it and thus your problem.

I'll try that.
What list do I have to right click in?
I tried the editor ID one, and it just renamed the stuff inside it. That stopped the blackness happening, but stull wasn't able to select all of them at once. o.o

When you click Cells it opens a window that shows all the cells in the game, as well as their settings. On the left side of said window is the list of the cells, right click in that, then it will say New, Delete, and Use Info. Just click NEW and type in your new cells name.

Geh, it stopped responding.
I tried to open the file again, and it keeps crashing every time it tries to load.

Remember when you load the files it can take several minutes depending on your computer. I have a rather fast gaming computer, and it takes 1-3 minutes. So wait like 5 and it should finish loading and start responding again.

Yeah, I forgot about that. n_n;
I realised what I was doing wrong following the tutorials from watching the videos, so I'm back on track. :D
