It's the end of another modding year...

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 7:52 am

In January 1997 four artists locked themselves in a room to discover what a Dark Elf would look like...

14 years and 40, 000 mods later...

(um... and just under 300 screenshots edited together)

Spoiler

Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by
You know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me..
And I'm feeling good

Fish in the sea
You know how I feel
River running free
You know how I feel
Blossom in the trees
You know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me...
And I'm feeling good

Dragonfly out in the sun
You know what I mean, don't you know
Butterflies all out having fun
You know what I mean
Sleep in peace
When, the this day is done
And this old world
Is a new world
And a bold world
For me...

Stars when you shine
You know how I feel
Scent of the pine
You know how I feel
yeah, freedom is mine
When you know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me...

So how's your year been?

How's my year been? Everything about my life changed. Funny how that can happen. For the better. Still haven't finished my mod, though. Nice thread :).

Pretty good, thanks for asking :)

Awesome video  Who's cover version is that?

But... January 2007 + 14 years = 2021? Did I Rip Van Winkle or something..? ;)

Its been pretty good. Joined TR, and Skyrim, and P:C earlier in the year. Now I've moved up the ranks to reviewer at TR and Department head at P:C. It's been fun, and will be even more fun soon when all of the projects begin their next/first releases to the public and I can see the reactions to the hard work I have put into some of this stuff :)

This year hasn't been the best for me, to put it delicately, but things are starting to turn around. I hope that the coming year will continue to get better.

In Morrowind related matters, I played less this year than any of the past years, and in fact haven't really played much at all. A few hours altogether, I imagine. But I have spent a considerable amount of time this year in working on my first mod, which was quite an experience for me, and something that I greatly enjoyed. It is nearly a year since I began construction of Elemental Magicka and though there are flaws to be fixed, I'm rather more interested in working on my new project... Maybe in another year I'll have better balanced my time between playing and modding, because I sure do miss both right now.

Very nice video, Illuminiel. If you don't mind me asking, what was used to edit it?

It will :)

ah... twin addictions - i feel your pain :) What bothers me most about not playing for a while is I have to relearn how to use Wrye Mash all over again - testing can be just as much fun as playing though

Oh a technical question... yay!

for in game shots I mainly used Fraps set in screenshot mode at 1 second - I made myself a levitate/speed ring for the flyovers = the trip up the Odai river was made up over 80 frames - orignally i flew into Balmora over and under the canol bridges and then to Rithleen's door. However i was trying to time the events with the lyrics of the song so edited it back

I built it using MS Photostory 3 which is a free app - you can still download it - works best in Win XP but I used it on Win 7 - each frame had to have a timing set - the river trip is set to 0.1 seconds

When I got to the sunrise over Vivec shot I discovered that Photostroy has a 300 frame limit - which meant I had to go back and delete some frames and slow down timings so I could fit more in - I had a whole lot more shots I wanted to do but just couldn't fit them in with the program - the project was about 500Mb at the time and I had to use the 4GB patch on Photostory as it was running out of memory.

Unfortunately Photostory uses a funny codec version of WMV which means it doesn't convert to FLV sites - hence the download version. I could save it again in Movie maker but that increases file siaze and reduces quality which defeats the purpose of the vid which is trying to show how quality has improved - Movie maker also has very limited pan and zoom functionality so I tend to use Photostory - which Bink has no problem converting to bik format which I use for my mod's cut scenes.

It took about 16 hours to make due to the need to get timings right and having to adjust every single frame but I had been thinking of Vurt's work since hearing the song and thought it would compliment it well

Some of the mods featured include Nich's rocks, ghostnull's silver replacer, various Connary replacers, darknut's armour, Vality's trees, Vurt's trees and grasses, AOF's Vivec and Hlaalu textures, phijama armour, MGE, Plangkye clothes, Better Bodies/Clothes - all the faces are by me and the clothes show at the end were ones I've worked on this year

Not sure who did the retexturing on the betty netch but it sure looks great :)

It's interesting, actually. Morrowind took five years to make. We've been modding it for eight.

Meaning, at this point, the modding community has collectively put nearly twice as much work into this game as the people who made it.

Very nice video Illy, it kinda made me sentimental for a moment, making me sad that I don't really play anymore.
I wish I could, but all the free time I get goes to modding, but like you said, testing is as fun as playing, heck it's even better because you know that what you see in the game is yours!

This year was pretty much the same as past few, but I'm hoping for an awesome year ahead of us!

Thank you so much for spending so much time for us in the community Illy, spending it making this vid. You've always been a wonderful person to us :)

And thanks to everyone for awesome mods you make and keep old Morrowind on the level of the best games even in latest generations!

It's been a great year for me. Both with personal life and with modding. I hope to release my overhaul soon, which will prob be the last mod I'll be making, though I'll keep adding to it :)
