Your first time in another country

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 8:43 am

My first time was a half-day in Tijuana when I was eleven. I saw a zebra. All we did was encircle a few blocks for about six hours 'cause my crazy aunt (who lived there at the time) told my mom that she'd be waiting for us. Considering I lived in California at the time, it's not that far.

Second time was when I moved to Wellington when I was eighteen. I went to Fiji for a few hours on the way there. It was hot and humid (same with Auckland on my layover), so I don't see the appeal. But yeah, Wellington was fun. It was a shame I only spent a year there. I really hate the abundance of hipsters there, but I like everything else.

I might move back since I've already begun to enjoy NZ more than my own home country (but I'm not one of those obnoxious Americans who uses NZ slang). Thing is, I know I'll miss Wal-Mart and affordable restaurants that aren't cafes and generally cheap things.

But yeah, next place to go may be Canada. I'm really not well off enough for constant trips, though, so it'll be a few years until that can happen. Unless it's for our honeymoon.

32 years including the year in the womb and I am still no where near of getting my butt out of this country, not even taking a short leave. You lucky folks.

The closest I got was in Arizona whilst visiting my brother at Ft. Huachuca. I was about 10 miles out of Mexico. The second closest was traveling up to the tip of Wisconsin. I was a great lakes distant from Canada.

The first foreign country I went to was either France or Sweden, I can't recall. Sweden was nicer, but I still quite like France

I've just realised that "Your first time in another country " sounds like Shakespearian innuendo.

I don't remember but it must have been Germany. My home town isn't that far away from the german border and my family sometimes take the tour. The trip dosn't take long since we are just there to shop. Things like Cigarettes, alcohol and candy is much cheaper than in Denmark. However, my first true visit to another country was a ski vacation in Norway. It was a trip with my after school center and i remember i was furious at my mom for signing me up but in the end, it was a good trip. I have been in Norway a couple of times since and i really love the country, very cozy and beautiful.

What was your first time out of your home country?
What country was it?

I as of yet I havn't been out of Australia, but for next years Christmas I'll be going to Fiji :)

So what was your first out-of-home-country holiday.

First time I was 2 years old I left Cuba to go to the Soviet Union.
The earliest I remember I was about 7 when I went back to see my grandparents in Havana.
I was living in Canada at the time.

First memory I have of somewhere other than the country I was born was...Virginia. I was a little kid, probably a toddler because I can't image I had started kindergarten yet, and my parents had left the house to go grocery shopping. I had no idea where they were, freaked out, and went outside and sat down on the curb of the road crying.

A cop eventually drove by and led me back into my house, where he called out to see if anybody was home. My older brother blundered down the stairs half-asleep in his underwear.

Several years ago (don't remember which year) I went to Mexico for a Summer vacation, and that was my first time outside of the United States. This Summer I will (hopefully) be going to Prague to further study Criminal Justice for six weeks. Other than that, I haven't really left the country much and I really regret it. I've always wanted to go to Europe, so I'm quite looking forward to studying abroad this Summer.
