MWE and save games

Hi all, I've recently ran into Peachykeen's post, that states MWE corrupts saves:

Before troubleshooting framerate-related issues, remove MGE (it can hurt or change framerate in odd ways).

Also, get MWE out of there before it kills your saves permanently (MWE will corrupt saves and should not be used in-game anymore).

After that, try making a new character and testing third person. If it still lags there, then it's related to a mod or something. If it only effects your old character, then it's more specific to that save, and we can start looking more accurately.


Could I ask some more explanation about this? I'm using MWE with three mods : Horatio's NPC Enchanced, Pursuit Enchanced and Stealth Enchanced. These mods make MW much more interesting in play, but i don't want my saves be screwed after multiple hours of gaming. Also, is there any substitutes to this mods without MWE?

There is an MWSE patch for Horatio's NPC Enhanced at PES, but I don't think the other two have ever been patched. And yes, MWE does tend to cause some corruption in games over time, its inconsistant however, and I'm still not sure if its MWE or the mods made for it that are the culprit, but it has caused me to stop using MWE alltogether.

I am almost 100% sure that this requires MWSE, not MWE. (It would be really funny if I was wrong :P )

Yeah, my bad :D But from some reasons i can't get this mod to work properly, the NPC's don't follow me thru load doors :( Maybe it is becouse I'm using MGE integrated MWSE? And i'm using a Polish version of the game, maybe there's a need for little intervention in mod? I remember i could get it to work quite some time ago, but how it was done.. ? ;)

Any other thoughts about this save corrupting?

The MWE corruption is related to MWE's extended features and is inconsistent, as kamilfranke mentioned. Without getting out corrupt saves and examining all the code again, it seems that the storing of extra data in the save is what breaks things.

That means that some MWE mods are more likely to break things than others, and some may do it faster. Combat Enhanced was always bad for me, breaking saves quickly, but the journal enhanced never really caused a problem (it does add data, but in a less sketchy way).

Now, in general, you want to run as few external utilities as possible. MWSE and MWE together are more likely to break scripts than one or the other, the same way MGE and ENB slowed things down a lot.

Whether you use MWE or not is obviously up to you, and your results may be better or worse than usual, but you should be aware that MWE can break your saves.

When I was using MWE with Combat Enhanced, I didn't experience any savegame corruption problems. (lucky me!) But my game did become a crashfest. Something like a CTD every 15-30 mins, 9 crashes out of 10 during battle. After removing MWE/Combat Enhanced, I tested my existing game + a new game and I was able to play for a several hours without problems. I never bothered with MWE ever again.

It`s a shame because MWE`s mods are quite unique and fun. :sad:
