To have good looking characters you need to activate HDR and antialiasing (BOTH), and to scale up "shadowmapresolution" to 1024 in your oblivion.ini. This allows to activate self-shadows in-game without graphical glitch. Sorry if you already knew. Might be useful for others though.

Too bad the race is called blood witch... It looks more like a beautiful imperial/breton girl to me.

I find it much easier to make male than female characters. I think it's because for my males I'm satisfied if they have an interesting look, but for females I want the females I play to actually be beautiful. I have one female character and I didn't make her face ymself, I downloaded a savegame from Tesnexus and imported it, so I'm not sure if it counts, but http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a313/dragatus/Oblivion/Morwen.jpg. As for the characters I made myself, I wouldn't exactly call them hot or attractive, mostly because they're a Khajiit and an Orc. But I'm still very satisfied with the way they came out:
