Fallout and Fallout 2 from Steam Rainbow Colors

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 2:04 am

I have downloaded Fallout 1 and 2 from Steam but when I start them up with my Windows 7 computer I get nothing but [censored] up rainbow colors. I even changed by display to 256-colors, (Screen resolution > advanced settings > list all modes > 1280 x 1024, 256 colors, 85 Hertz) but this didn't help.

Any advice? I want my Fallout. I've never tried to play the original Fallouts on a Windows 7 and I can't for the life of me find the color compatibility setting like XP (my last PC) had, but I imagine there has to be one somewhere?

If it matters, my monitor normally runs 1280 x 1024, 85 hertz, 32 color, but I think most current monitors do that (pardon my fail at technical knowledge)

Change the settings in the ddraw.ini file in C:\Program Files (x86) \Steam\steamapps\common\fallout2

or where ever you put your steam folder.

There's also some mods you can download to fix these issues. you'll have to (insert favorite browser here) them.

It worked, thanks

Now I can have my Fallout :fallout:

Another question for anyone reading this, can I still download the Fallout 2 Restoration project even though I'm using the steam version?

No problem at all! Can we get a moderator to pin this. It is really a common problem, and took me quite a while to finally get it resolved. Thanks!

Nevermind.. check out the pinned "Fallout Series Introduction and Game Guide Troubleshooting, Bug Fixes, Walkthroughs, and Patches" at the top of the forums here.
