Fallout on a space station

1st I would like to say how great this game has become over such a short span of time.

I was listening to a Nova: Science Now podcast and they were discussing long term missions. A part of their ability to do such missions is to be able to 'play' over the long time frames required with no real time communication back home. I thought how fallout was such an ideal franchise for such a task as it would effectively allow the crew to take sojourn away from the mission in environment that evolve and react to their decisions. This would be even better I though if the whole crew could somehow be in the same game together like an MMO like WOW but of course that would not be an option because the lag from a mars mission back to earths serves would prevent that. However, a fallout universe could and the players could each have their own plot lines in the same universe. They could if they were playing FO:NV have one player side with the legion and another with NCR. Players would not be able to directly interact with one another but their legacy and actions in the world would have an effect on the other players evolving plot lines and how the various factions interact with each other. This is built around the aspect that the crew would be working in shifts so they would not all be able to play at the same time but could pick up at a later time. However this would also make the game dynamics far more interesting for an almost play by mail type game that Fallout could quite possibly pull off in the next iteration of the franchise.

What do you think, would such a game be feasible? It would be very buggy at 1st as it would be impossible to program for all contingencies however with periodical patching it could quite easily be compensated for as well this could enter into the mix and NPC style player. A computer that played the game not only as a companion but also as their own entity entirely in the game with their own objectives and motivations independent of the player.
